In general, Solitaire is a strange place to be. It is a bit cheap with the abandoned old cars and suculant plants not native for the area, but has character. The bakery, yep it is famous together with its owner - Moose McGregor and sweets are good, especially when you realise where you are. The brownie and the blueberry pie are way better than the so much publicised apple pie.

Do not expect one of those famous coffeehouses in Vienna or Paris. But when driving from Sesriem to Walvisbay you pass through Solitaire and it's the only place, somewhere in the middle of the desert, where you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee and some delicious apple pie. The portions they serve are quite big and still hot. So when passing through Solitaire take your time for a little walk (old cars, birds, grocery store,... ) and taste this "famous" pie.

It is okay. Curb your expectations and remember you are in the middle of no-where. Character is there, taste...? Well, it is a matter of taste!

Enjoy a warm cup of coffee (or cold drink) with freshly baked apple pie(sort of "Apfelstrudel") or a wide range of assorted cakes or pastries. When we visited, the owner Moose just removed warm Chelsea buns from the oven. What a treat! Don't expect fresh cream with your apple pie, mind you, it is in the middle of the desert, but it is delicious on its own. Sit down in the outside garden and relax - if you can find a spot during tourist season. This is a great place for a stop over, taking a break and to check out the adjacent "grocery" store and peaceful surroundings and old cars. This makes for excellent photography. Have a conversation with the eccentric owner/baker Moose - what a treat (ladies - watch out!).

perfect for a pitstop when passing by this place. Everybody planning a trip to Namibia will read about this place and the famous apple pie.
I wouldn't really adapt your plans to make sure you pass here, but if you do it is worthwhile the stop.
Yes the apple pie is really nice... although probably not the best in the world. Also quite large.
And yes, we also ended up having fun with the old cars when entering Solitaire and taking some nice pics of it.
