“Great experience, beautiful property!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

My girlfriend and I recently traveled to El Salvador and stayed at La Tortuga Verde for one night and wish we had time to stay for another night or two. The grounds are beautiful, rooms are clean, and service is excellent. We paid $35 for a private room with A/C and private bath, a very good deal compared to the hostels/hotels on the western beaches. The beach is more friendly to non-surfers than west side beaches, and las flores is an amazing wave less than 10 minutes away for surfers. Make sure you visit the east side when going to El Salvaodr, well worth the effort it takes to get out there. Also, make sure you stay at La Tortuga Verde, you will not be disappointed.

We first came to La Tortuga Verde for 3 days. Finally, we stayed an entire week ! This is a nice place to relax during the week. When we were there, we were only few tourists. We payed 35$ a night for our room with AC, fan, private bathroom, and it was cleaned everyday. There is a restaurant and food is ok, but it is expansive, and unfortunately there is no other option, since you can't bring your own food. The staff is really nice, but don't expect them to help you with things to do around or directions. Tom, the owner, is better with that. Oh, and Cesar is also a really great employee! We also did the lancha trip, a great experience. The only thing is that we came back to the hostel in the dark, which was not safe. However, we will always remember this experience ;)

We pulled into cuco looking for a tranquillo spot to refresh our minds and bodies before the mayhem that is honduran border crossings the following morning.

The staff was kind enough to let us camp/sleep in the parking lot overnight and we enjoyed the time in the pool, sipping a few cocktails among the swaying palms and a delicious dinner looking at the sunset with our feet in the sand. Just what we needed before honduras.

We cant speak to the rooms or accommodations, but our surf and turf (and the service) was great and the beach ambiance of the grounds was fantastic.

Excellent all around. The waves are fantastic, the staff are incredbly helpful and friendly, the beach is empty, clean and beautiful, the owner is a true gem. Rooms are lovely and quiet, food is awesome, grounds are large and inviting, swimming pool is small but clean. This is exactly the kind of place you would be proud to be a part of. GO!

Overlooked by most of the travellers, this is the place to go. While there are other resorts nearby, Tortuga Verde is the only one which offers resort-like comfort and first class food very priceworthy. We paid 25 usd for a room w fan.
There were hardly other guests, we had the amazing beach for ourselves. Unlike at most other places in C.A., the nights were quiet, no barking dogs and no roosters. The plastic covered mattress irritated me a bit at the beginning, making every move hearable.
There are some malibu's to hire (10 usd per day) to ride the nice beginner's break, good fun. The resort offers a pool, hammocks everywhere, a sanctuary for turtle eggs (which the owner buys to protect them being eaten by locals), good service and is kept super clean at all time. Since you can't avoid eating there 3 times a day, bring enough cash. You might stay longer than you intended, and food is absolutely great but not cheap.

TIP:
If you want to enjoy the quiet, plan staying there during the week. There are weekenders coming for daytrips. However, it didn't bother me.

Room Tip: Save the 10 usd for the aircon, you can leave window open during the night since you're perfecly...

Fantastic location, great food, service, and overall feel to the place. The fact the owner is a super laid back surfer is a bonus. The property and rooms are extremely clean and well laid out, and the beach is awesome. This place is not to be missed

We are Americanbackpackers thinking about buying property in El Salvador. We heard about the American Tom that owns La Tortuga Verde and we decided to go check it out. We were staying in Usulutan because we got in overnight. We decided to do a day trip because we found a place that had ESPN for the football playoffs. Bad decision cause Tortuga Verde was really nice. Is is about 3k down the road from proper El Cuco but if you start walking, someone will stop and pick you up. We walked in and was impressed with the view. There aren't many backpackers in El Salvador and not a lot of really nice ones at that. However, this was really nice. As we were walking down to the beach, we heard a hello from an obviously American. This was Tom. He proceeded to show us around, answered all of questions about buying property (and then some), give us pointers on running a hostel (private bathrooms for each room a must!), showed us all the rooms and then took us in his truck to some other properties that he is working on. We were blown away by his generosity of info and what he has done with Tortuga. The beds were firm with crisp, monogrammed sheets, nice clean rooms and bathrooms, screened in porches on the rooms etc. Lots of nice little touches that you don't see in hostels - or hotels for that matter. We didn't eat there but we did see some food and it looked good. For those with a car, at the end of the road, he has a beautiful area on the beach where you can park your car and enjoy the beach and facilities for $2 (pool too). There are rooms there as well if you wanted to stay. After all the special time he gave us, he then drove us back to town to make sure we made the last bus back to Usulutan. I was really impressed and when we go back to El Salvador, we will slice out a week or so for La Tortuga Verde. Oh the beach is beautiful of course!

Room Tip: It really depends on the price and what you want. Dorms were the cheapest but they were just a clea...
