Came with our young family on early Thursday evening. Staff were welcoming and the food was lovely. No menu for the kids but we made do, and the staff were flexible with the main menu for then. Lovely pub in a lovely setting.

Thank you for your lovely review following you and your family's recent meal here at The Sawley Arms. We are pleased you enjoyed the meal and found the menu to be suitable for your little ones, We do not have a separate Children's menu but always have smaller options and more simple food available for our little diners!
We hope to see you and your family again, we will be here smiles at the ready!!
Kind regards,

Visited this very pleasant rural pub/restaurant for dinner. The large sign at the entrance to the premises promises a "Warm Welcome"…and so it was, from stepping over the threshold. Julie, the proprietress, has been there for a year and is experienced and well versed in the restaurant/hotel and hospitality trade. She has a warm personality and is both pleasant and polite, as are her staff. The food was good, service was prompt, there is a wide menu and a comprehensive wine list. On the night we visited, for some reason the place was being patronised by a few grumps, mostly visitors to the area, including one old curmudgeon who complained that his "blue" steak was not rare enough. It looked pretty raw to me, and he looked and acted like a serial complainer, as did his wife. This was dealt with politely, and with dexterity and aplomb by the staff, who deserve credit for their patience and tolerance. Sometimes these reviews should be about the customers as much as the staff.

All in all a very convivial and enjoyable evening out, and we will definitely return again soon to sample some of the other attractive items on the menu and wine list. Highly recommended.

Really pretty setting, lovely and relaxing outside beer garden. We just had a drink but pub seemed very popular with people eating both inside and out

We'd been on an 8.5 mile ramble around Ripley Castle doing a spot of geocaching on the way. At the end of all this we decided that we'd like to go out for our tea rather than head back to the campsite and start cooking. We'd spotted a couple of places on t'internet prior to going on our holiday, but the Sawley Arms was much closer to our campsite and looked okay from the outside. On the off-chance we popped in on our way back to the campsite and booked a table for that evening.
After showering and changing we headed back to the Sawley Arms. The staff were very friendly and had our table ready exactly when we'd booked it for. The menu was not terribly extensive, but what was on offer would certainly cater for most tastes. The children ordered a child's portion of a roast beef dinner. What was brought to the table would have sated most adults' hunger! We were so stuffed that we couldn't contemplate a pudding (sad face).
I would definitely recommend eating here. I would suggest booking as, although we were lucky enough, I wouldn't like to guarantee a table when the food is this good.

Today I was treated to lunch by two dear friends at The Sawley Arms. It was lovely to see Julie again and my meal, the Fish Thermador, was outstanding. The refurb is super, the atmosphere lovely and it is so close to where I live that I will be using it as my 'local' from now onwards. Do visit; you will not be disappointed!
