“Family Friendly Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

Stayed here 21-28 December 2012. Wanted to get away from the UK for Christmas and knew that this hotel catered mainly for families, but that didn't pose a problem for us being a mature couple (those that have submitted reviews moaning about the number of kids maybe should have read the hotel description a bit more closely....!)

This is a large hotel situated on a rocky promontory several miles from the nearest large resort (Playa de los Americas), but there is a free courtesy bus. There is a small development of shops and bars in Playa Paraiso, however, which will suit those that really must get their daily dose of UK football, papers, John Smiths etc....

Hotel was very clean, and the staff are exceptionally friendly and well-trained. Food was very varied and designed to suit a wide range of nationalities - this hotel seems quite popular with German guests who, with the Brits, seem to make up the majority.

Only real downside for us was the entertainment - it is a bit lacking, and clearly aimed at families. There is a loely nightclub facility which only seems to be used for family shows up to about 11pm, and on some nights we saw the dj playing music with nobody in the place at all! weird...!

As we were there over Christmas, there was a special menu laid on for Christmas day, and the staff pushed the boat out to provide something special - a huge range of hot and cold food, including turkey and beef carvery, even caviar for those that wanted it!

Bar service was excellent - hotel was fairly full but we never had to wait more than a minute or two to get served. Good range of drinks on the all inclusive tariff too.

Me and my partner have just got back from the Buena Vista, we can honestly say it exceeded all expectations.

Room: large family room with balcony, we were on the 9th floor which was very quiet and peaceful. Fridge and t.v in room. Slightly miffed that we had two single beds pushed together.. But it didn't exactly spoil the holiday! Rooms cleaned to perfection everyday. Safe box in room with no charge to use. We had an issue with remote that didn't work, but was replaced within 10 minutes of ringing down to reception.. And a courtesy call was made to us the next day to check it was all ok.

Hotel/Pool/etc: Hotel was spotless, really... Very, very clean... Light and ambient with lovely Christmas decor. A few shops in lobby area, hairdressers, jewellery.. General beach store and newsagents. The lower lobby area housed a 'serve yourself' bar with beers, wines, tea, coffee and soft drinks. There was also a manned bar for cocktails and mixers etc. Outside area was again kept extremely clean with tables cleared within seconds of leaving.
There are two pools, one heated and one not... To be honest... I couldn't really tell the difference and once you take the plunge into the cold water... It's not that bad! There are LOADS of sun loungers... All with tables and umbrellas... We never really got down to the pool until about 10am each day, and always got a place with good sun. There is a beach bar with same facilities as inside.

Food: two restaurants at this hotel, one that you had to book a day in advance which offered a themed menu. We visited there once for the Italian night. Food is all of good quality with vast range of meats, fish, veg, fruit and puddings. Both restaurants are all similar to an 'all you can eat' buffet back in the the U.K... Staff fetch your drinks and you help yourself to food.

Customer Service: I cannot praise this enough, staff cannot do enough for you, all friendly and smiling. All greet you when passing. Lovely

Overall, was perfect for our stay, we just wanted to chill out for a week with no stress, and this is what we got.

Room Tip: Block A overlooks the pools, we were in B which was quiet and overlooking Mount Tadhi.

Just returned from one weeks holiday with my husband. Nice break and lovely weather, unfortunately the hotel was not what we were expecting. There were allot of families there and things were very integrated. The dinning experience was very much like a noisy canteen and it was lacking in order and there was absolutely no ambience. It was very much like a free for all. We've stayed it other hotels of the same rating and although there were young children there, there were also areas for adults only in the dinning room and at the pool.
when we arrived our room was not ready so they wrapped a red plastic band around our wrists and sent us off to get a drink and wait. They never gave us any idea of how long we would have to wait or any directions on where to go. When we returned about an hour later they gave us the key to the room and on the ninth floor and showed us to the wrong lift. So we were ages finding
it with luggage in tow. The room was on the top floor and the smell up there was awful. The room was facing the back of the hotel and the balcony did not appear to get any sun. When I
complained to the reception they were very unhelpful and said I would need to speak to rep the following day. Thank god the rep managed to get us moved and the next room had a terrace
and was on the side of the hotel looking over the beach. We spent most of our time on the
terrace as there was never any room by the pool. If the rep had not moved us I can honestly
say are holiday would of been spolit.
M.

Me the wife and our two kids ( 25 & 30) just got back on the 11th Dec, and overall had a great 2wk holiday.Roms are spacious, very clean. All the staff were freindly and polite. Food was good, plenty of choice.Entertainment wasn't the best, but at the same time it wasn't bad, they all did a good job. The location of the hotel is a bit out the way but if you look around there are some nice shops and cafe's. The hotels free shuttle bus service is good, which takes you to the "americas", where you can have a good day out. Siam Park is a must! We booked the submarine trip through our first choice rep, but it certainly wasn't worth the 200 euros, you see more sealife at Siam Park!! Our rep Emma wasn't to blame as she was brilliant throughout our stay. Forget the negative reviews, this hotel was very pleasent, as was the sunshine. A big thankyou to Emma, who was great.

Me and my Partner are extremely late putting a review on for our Holiday here as we stayed in July, but have just never got round to it! I have been looking at the reviews from guests that have stayed since our Holiday and agree with the majority on most issues.
Our room was lovely, huge with two toilets, a living room area and seperate bedroom. Big balcony with table and chairs and a sunbed. Couldnt fault the room and the maid service was good. Always clean.
Yes, you do have to get up early to bag your spot round the pool, I was there at 7am every morning, but I dont mind, I just either read my mags or had some more shut eye. For the money I have spent on my Holiday, I dont want to spend it in bed. im there for the Weather!
Animation Team were not particularly funny, attempted to watch a show one evening, but it was a bit embarrasing to watch really! We like to have a laugh as much as the next person, but it just wasnt funny. Spent most evenings in the Bar Lounge Area drinking. There was a Lady singing in there and she sounded awful. Sang the same songs every night. She couldnt sing, basically.
The worst aspect of the Hotel is probably the canteen, I mean Restaurant. We have been to a few Riu Hotels and have always had a table allocated to us for the duration of the Holiday so you just go straight to your table. This time you had to just try and grab the nearest clean looking free table. It got very hectic in there at times, and yes it was full of kids. Not the most well behaved of kids, at that. And the parents just let them run riot, banging their spoons off their plates. It was so noisy in there. If your looking for a romantic dining experience, you wont get it here. Or in the 2nd restaurant down by the Sea. Same food and still Self Service, only difference it has a Sea View. Other Riu Hotels have had a 2nd or 3rd Restaurant but Waiter Service which I think is nice for a change. The food was edible and sometimes very nice, but repetative. We went for a fortnight, my Partner got really quite bored with it. Pork, pork and pork. Drinks were great, though!
Yes, it is in a very quiet resort, just a couple of shops and bars, but we knew that when we booked it. We got the Courtesy Bus twice into Playa De Las Americas, which is great resort (think we will stay here if we visit Tenerife again). Found a great English Pub called The Old Lodge ran by a lovely British couple who did us a Traditonal Sunday Roast (so good my Partner had two)! He was hungry and not particularly enjoying the food at the Hotel.
We also had a day at Siam Park, brilliant waterpark, worth visiting.
On the whole, we had a nice Holiday, fab weather, fed and watered and got a nice tan. We wouldnt stay here again because it seems more for families than couples. We have stayed in better riu's in Tunisia and Bulgaria.

The staff were very friendly and efficient, the rooms were large (we stayed in a family room as this was all they had left - I would say 90% of rooms are family rooms). Food was of a good quality but rather repetitive, we were only there for 7 days, any more would be too much. Drinks were good with wine, beer and soft drinks on self service taps and everything else served by the bar staff. Entertainment was OK but not really of an English taste.
The main gripe was that there were lots of foreign families with children (at the end of November!). I would not like to be there in school holiday time!
There was the usual problem with people reserving sunbeds with towels and then not using the bed for most of the day!
The position of the hotel is not ideal as the nearest shops and bars (which is only a handful) are about half a mile away. The hotel has a seaview but the only beach is very small and man-made and not at all inviting (black sand and rather choppy sea).
Overall a good holiday - we teamed it with a weeks cruise on Thomson Majesty, but nothing special.
We will be going back to the Caribbean next time!
