We wanted something more personal than what is on offer from the big national hotel
chains and found the staff here friendly and helpful and the price including a choice
of breakfasts was good value. The room was modern, clean and comfortable, although
it could be improved with a more up to date, larger TV. Food is homemade and I had
an excellent steak pie in the bar last evening. We would happily stay here again.

We have stayed here several times and have always been made very welcome. We normally stay two nights so that we can see relatives who live nearby and have a decent weekend with them. My wife always likes to look around Ikea as it is very close. The breakfasts are excellent and we usually have at least one evening meal at the hogs head. The meals are fairly basic but are fairly cheap and usually well cooked. All in all we always enjoy our stay there.

Room Tip: We have stayed in several rooms and found them all to be very good.

Hi Jim & Sue thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed your stay with us again. Not to much flat pack assembly after the Ikea visit I hope?

I dont live far from the hogs head hotel/restaurant, i used to go alot but a couple of years ago i stopped as the menu changed and wasnt as good. My parents told me that the menu had changed so i gave it another go, im pleased i did, the menu has alot more of a selection and good for all budgets and tastes. The food is lovely and the portion sizes are good ( chips are amazing ) outside is good especially for kids to have a run around, just wish they had more play equipment then we could stay longer as the kids would be amused for longer.

Arrived late Friday evening , showed to our room, not a stunning view over the car park. But lovely room large bed nicely furnished very comfortable tea tray flat screen tv plenty of room. Breakfast Saturday morning not bad for money but dining room area for guests and function room very tired and could do with some brightening up and some new furniture. On the evening had a very nice t bone steak, pub itself was very busy staff very helpful. Liked the fact that even though pub busy it wasn't too noisy up in guest rooms . Breakfast next morning was a little disappointing all breakfast tables taken and no others laid, which was a shame as the staff surely know how many room they are catering for. We ended up with quite a wait and were bought bits and pieces of breakfast crockery and utensils a little at a time. No mushroom either for breakfast ran out didn't think much of the sausages very cerealey . But after all this for what we paid for the weekend for two of us was very good overall just little niggles would definitely stay again in fact have booked again .

Room Tip: Sure most rooms of similar quality

Six of us and a baby went to the Old Hog’s Head Hotel at Awsworth today for Sunday lunch.

Be warned, this place is difficult to find but, as you come from the direction of Ikea and turn off towards Awsworth at the traffic island, there is a large sign to turn left. Even then you’ll be left wondering as you drive through what appears to be an industrial estate.

It’s obvious that the locals know a good thing when they see it as the place was packed. However we had booked and were shown to our table straight away. The service was really excellent and the staff were friendly and efficient. We were supplied with a high chair for the baby.

We had the carvery and on offer were beef, pork, lamb and turkey. I had the beef and it was certainly amongst the best I have come across and they certainly don’t skimp on the portions. I was struggling but it was too good to leave. The veg was excellent too with a large choice from mashed and baked potatoes, peas, onion, parsnips and carrots.

The cost was £8.25 for a standard meal and £6.25 for a child’s meal and it was worth every penny.

Even though the place was very busy indeed there was still plenty of room in the car park.

I can't stress enough how amazing this place is. A lot of photos show the rooms furnished with the updated furniture but we were lucky to get one of the older rooms. It felt like walking straight into your own bedroom, it was so welcoming. The staff are so friendly and you're greeted like you old friends. Couldn't be happier with the food in the little pub below. The chef does wonders with a steak, which is a big compliment coming from a couple of aussies. We wish we could've stayed there for our entire England holiday. Will definitely be coming back.
