We spent week in the beautiful designed and equipped Folly. These are exceptional rental properties in rural Cumbria but just a short drive to all main attractions. Jude has furnished the properties to an extremely high standard and has given great thought to the comfort and needs of visitors. To sit out and enjoy a drink and take in the spectacular views is sheer bliss. Highly recommended.

Hall Hills is very conveniently located for exploring both the north Lake District and attractions beyond. A really convenient drive to Carlisle and about 40 minutes from Bridoswald Fort, Hadrian's Wall. We were also lucky to be in for the weekend of the Dalston show (the nearest small village) and that was great fun. We stayed in Tethera cottage, very nice, fully 5 star equipped. My smallest niggle is that the back patios are not very private for some of the properties, from Tethera you are fully exposed to the patios on both sides and the laundry room entrance. However, I think this i an aspect of the option to have large groups rent all the cottages which seems popular. If you are a big group, this would be a positive as you can all mix together otu the back. Also, the bed in the main bedroom, the mattress was a bit hard and seemed to be the only slightly under-quality aspect of the whole cottage but I like a soft mattress so that may just be my personal preference.

Having just spent 4 nights in merthera with my husband and 4 kids I would have to say that these cottages were perfect for our needs. Jude honestly has thought of everything, the cottage is tastefully decorated , spotlessly clean and more than well equipped. The surroundings were peaceful and while we were a little north of the lakes there was more than enough beautiful scenery and activities to suit our young children ( all under 5), the close proximity of the m6 made even the southern lakes accessible as a day trip- even with the 4 kids in tow! Jude had taken time to select a few age appropriate toys and games which were left in the cottage and delighted the kids on our arrival, giving us valuable minutes to get unpacked, even the laundry room has a stash of magazines for browsing through and DVD s to watch should you wish. The book selection in the cottages is carefully thought out with something for everyone. To me these extra touches speak of someone who has a real pride in their business and wants to go the extra mile for her customers. Also the any day changeover was great and facilitated us having a 4 night stay at peak season.

If you cant cope with total silence and real darkness at night, head for a city centre Hotel .Hall Hills is just perfect for a total " get away from it all" Holiday. We have used self catering accommodation for over thirty years and have never stayed in such perfect surroundings. Jude has thought of everything. All too often when cooking in a rented kitchen you wish you had brought along your own equipment. Not here. If you are looking for top quality accommodation in the lake district, you have found it. Yes, a look at the map confirms you are thirty minutes north of Ullswater, but it is well worth the time spent in the car for the total peace and quiet of the location and luxurious apartments. It is a pleasure to recommend hall hills as a base for exploring this part of the country.

Trying to find the magical combination of an idyllic setting, traditional buildings beautifully converted with luxurious interiors is more of a challenge than you might think in Cumbria but Hall Hills does it perfectly. It’s hard to photograph, so the web page doesn’t do it justice – come and see for yourself. Lots of lovely little touches made it one of the cosiest cottages we have stayed in – we honestly found it hard to leave every day and we were here for a week! The owners have that great ability to be always available but never intrusive. Jude has a great eye and lovely style but always combined with the aim of comfort and relaxation.
Visit nearby High Head Sculpture Valley – a lovely combination of art and outdoors and great scones!
Jude/Tim – see you at Christmas – we can’t wait for our return visit!

Room Tip: We loved Yam but have booked Methera for our next stay - both are beautiful but Methera is brilliantly private
