“Nice pub/B&B by the shore”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013 via mobile

Spent the last night of our Hadrian's Wall walk here, as everywhere in Bowness on Solway was full. Hope and Anchor gets a bit bypassed by walkers as it's not quite at the end if the route - a pity, as it's a nice modest little place and much friendlier than the Bowness pub. Room plain but decent, breakfast ditto, two adults plus dog £40 all in.

We arranged to stay here the night before we began our Hadrian's Wall walk. Dougie and Liz greeted us warmly and we soon had a pint in hand.

Beds were comfy and found it hard to get up knowing what lay ahead of us. Fortunately we were served an excellent fry up which set us on our way nicely.

Id say it was about right in regards to price.

Really enjoyed our stay here, at the outset for our walk along the remains of Hadrians Wall. Very welcoming hosts, comfortable rooms and great breakfast. Would recommend staying here. Good starting point for the long distance walk.

We arrived at The Hope and Anchor rather tired and a bit wet at the end of the first leg of our Coast to Coast cycle. We had battled up the coastline with the wind in our faces, and although the route was flat, it had been hard work. Dougie and Liz were very welcoming, and Dougie put all our bikes safely away for us. The Hope and Anchor is the ideal stop for route 72, and is actually right on the route overlooking the estuary. The pub itself is a good honest down to earth sort of a place, with lovely beer, and wholesome, generous food ...... just what exhausted cyclists need. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, and we all had a good nights sleep. Breakfast was very good, and Dougie got all our bikes out ready to see us on our way. This little pub was fantastic value for money, and Dougie and Liz couldn't have been more accommodating. It's not easy to please 7 women, so well done.

We arranged to stay at the Hope & Anchor on day 1 of our trek across the North of England following Hadrian's Cycleway. Dougie and Liz couldn't have been more welcoming! The place was great, real ale at the bar and fantastic food. Rooms were really comfortable and most importantly storage for the bikes was readily to hand :-) Would definitely recommend this if you're planning a cycle/walking/hiking trip along The Hadrian's Wall Route
