Stayed for 3 nights at Sornbank in the double room at the back and never felt more welcome anywhere! Room/bathroom spotless. Breakfast is super and Katherine is a very nice, friendly and helpful person. The b&b has a very good location to see a lot of the island. On Katherine's advice we spent a day on Jura as well and it was just amazingly beautiful! Most certainly will be back.

Room Tip: If staying in the room a lot, choose the twin room because it has 2 chairs to sit and read a book or...

The balcony of the first floor, 'Coachman's flat' at Sornbank looks out over a weir on the river at Bridgend. A heron stalks the fish below. Swallows sweep the surface of the river and many birds spend time in the trees opposite. A few minutes walk up the road leads to the start of a 3 mile walk through mixed woodlands that follows the river upstream. The trees here are immense and varied having been planted over the last 150 years and provide a rich habitat for the wildlife. Bridges cross the river at intervals providing an alternative walk back through flower filled meadows. Scott and Katherine have made the flat most comfortable with all the facilities one could hope for including a fine flat screen Samsung TV for rainy days. Travel to the rest of Islay could not be easier using a car of Scott’s Islay Car Hire, or using the very good bus service that passes close by to all 3 distant points on the island and to the airport and ferry ports. The nearby walled Community Garden for amazing fresh salad and vegetables, the local Spar shop for other essential food items, the Bridgend Hotel for its bar and dinner, extensive walks in many directions and even a local church; St Columba’s for a Sunday service, make Sornbank a perfect location for a holiday. We certainly hope to return

My Wife and I enjoyed our 3 nights at this B&B. The location was central to the islands visiting spots but a car is essential to see them easily. The room we had was on the front of the building ans was subject to some vehicle noise in the mornings, but this was a minor problem. The room and bathroom were clean although the bathroom looked a little old fashioned. Katherine the Hostess couldn't do enough to make our stay a happy one and her breakfasts were first class.
In all it was a great place to base yourself to enjoy Islay.

The Bank Flat at Sornbank - Just returned home after spending a week at The Bank Flat and we really enjoyed our stay. The accommodation is very roomy with a lovely twin bedroom, spacious lounge and well equipped kitchen. The bathroom is modern and the whole apartment is spotless! The location at Bridgend is nice and central for days out around the island, and with a Spar and pub just across the bridge it has all the local services you could want! An excellent experience and holiday, thank you Katherine!
