We visited this pub today (Good Friday) with family and friends having read the reviews on trip advisor. There are a few mixed reviews but are mostly good so we decided to rate it for ourselves- we weren't disappointed. My idea of 5 star isn't contemporary Laura Ashley drapes and Debenhams lamps - it's the quality of the food I'm eating and the customer service I receive for the money I pay. Both aspects I would rate as 5 star. I really fancied breaded garlic mushrooms but they didn't have those on the menu - all we had to do was ask and they cooked them for us. Really nice they were too. We then had battered cod and chips (well it is Good Friday!) the batter was lovely - very light, the chips were proper homemade chips with a lovely homemade tartar sauce. We just had enough room for a dessert. Homemade baileys cheesecake hmmmmmm. Value for money? 2x breaded garlic mushrooms, 2x cod chips and peas, garlic bread, chocolate brownie with clotted cream, homemade cheesecake with cream, 1 pint of Magners and 2 pints of coke =£38.50. Fabulous. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. If I was being picky yes the chairs etc could do with being updated but who's bothered about looking at the chairs and curtains when you're in good company, eating good food having a good laugh :-)
