“A very good one night stay would stay again if this way”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

Ignore the previous review. My family and I stayed for one night recently as we were visiting family in Manchester. we could not afford any hotel in the center on a saturday night so chose to stay a bit further a field.

I am glad we did, we arrived to leave one of our cars at the lodge before we set off. The receptionist was so helpful even though we arrived much earlier than check in one of our rooms was ready so we were able to leave all our luggage there rather than in the car.

After returning later that day the rooms were ready, very bright and well appointed.

We asked about somewhere for dinner and was recommended the Stretton Fox, well worth the two mile or so drive.

Came back and relaxed. Beds were comfy and rooms spacious. You would not find anything at this price any where else closer to the city.

My only comment is that the walls are quite thin, and we were unlucky enough to have some party/group come back about 2am but even they quientened down after about 30 minutes.

The breaskfast included in the morning was surprisingly full of choice and I was full when I left.

Check out and the making the booking was easy and would have no complaints about the service.

Would stay again.

I have just returned to Gloucestershire from Cumbria...via Dutton...I can say without hesitation that my stay was great...of course its not the Ritz...if that`s what you want...go and pay in excess of £190 a night....but for a great lodge hotel...it is without doubt brilliant value for money....
As for the last Reviewer...perhaps his own Gender questioning made him grumpy....because he could not be more wrong...
The Staffy were helpful...courteous...and respectful....all the qualities that should be given to the hospitality staff by those that use their Services...but seldom are...

Indeed the "Chinese Lady" has a beautiful and such a Welcoming way that is missing in large Corporate Hotels...so much so that I wanted to bring her home with me :-)

I would also say that my work as a Nuclear Engineer means that I have spent most of my life in hotels....and without doubt or hesitation would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for cheaper...clean...comfortable en - suite accommodation ...I will be returning whenever I travel North...

Room Tip: As always...be polite and ask !

I stayed for over 3 night and felt like I wanted to leave just after the first night, rooms where tidy and clean, excutive suite is very cold... The chinese lady was very rude and kept stopping me when i was coming in and out with allways a negative comment. Bad experience due to bad manners. WIll not stay again or recommend them. Hope there attude changes for there own sake.

This Guest is not as stated on their Trip Advisor profile a women, but a local man and Trip Adviser have been informed.

This local Guest, for reasons we can only guess, seemed motivated to try his best to disrupt our business during his stay and then damage it afterwards.

We have 68 other Reviews on Trip Advisor and this local Guest is the ONLY one ever to rate us as POOR!

We have 68 other Reviews on Trip Advisor and not one of them has EVER said ONE negative word about our staff.

Firstly this local Guest booked the wrong dates and the wrong type of room and so turned up a day early, however without fuss we redid his booking and even gave him a FREE Upgrade to a Superior Room for his 3 day stay.

On his first night after being told at Check-in that Reception closes at 10pm he called the hotel using his mobile phone at 11pm, waking up staff and when his phone didn’t work well enough to complete his call he then went to the Reception Desk and rang the emergency bell in order to get attention.

The urgency of his late night request, was to order room service, in order to have his breakfast delivered to his room each day, which we did.

On the morning of his final full day he told our House Keeper, that the Manager had left instructions that the cleaner should change his sheets and ordered her to do so – this was total fiction. The reason he made this story up was because he wanted his sheets changed as he planned to entertain a lady friend most of the night, when only paying for a single room.

As for his claim that his room was cold -then he must not know how to work his heater. His room is also Double Glazed, not single as he states and our Receptionists, which reviewer after reviewer reports just how nice and friendly she is, was born in England not China, so wrong again.

It is just a real shame that local Guests like this, with questionable motives, can con sites such as this to place a review that is both factually incorrect and written by a man who is claiming to be a women. However thankfully, it is also very far removed from the hundreds of other reviews on this site and elsewhere who praise us for our friendly and efficient staff.

We work so hard every day to ensure we offer our Guests the very best levels of service and local reviewers like this, whose only motive is to damage our business, just make us so sad!!

Comfortable, quirky and wonderfully decorated, we stayed for a night when we were passing through the area. The staff were very friendly and helpful and clearly have a great eye for detail The breakfast options were vast.

They are clearly going for cheap and cheerful and they've completely succeeded. Would happily stay again.

Room Tip: The lodge is 'L' shaped and faces a reasonably busy junction of A roads. Rooms facing away f...

I was attending an event at the Nearby Park Royal, and initially chose this one because of the parking, price and distance.

Now after having stayed there, I would recommend this place to anyone, the rooms are spacious, spotless, and modern. Staff are more than helpful and have a good knowledge of the area. Breakfast has plenty of choice and nothing is too much trouble.

What a great place! As there are five of us in our family (3 being under 10) it was so great to find somewhere we could all stay in one room. It was a clean and practical hotel with all the basic amenities. Breakfast was self serve with a huge selection based on continental style which went down really well with the kids as they tried a bit of everything. The service was friendly and helpful. There is nothing negative to say!

Stayed at the HGL whilst away on business. Greeted by Jeff, who is very friendly and explains all about the hotel. The rooms are large and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast which is continental is fresh and there is a small choice of hot options. The evening meals are very nice and served in your room. Would definately stay here again if in the area.
