“Fabulous food and service”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

We have holidayed in Downderry for the last 5 years but as we like to buy fresh fish in Looe and cook it ourselves we had never eaten at The Blue Plate until this year. What had we been missing!!! We decided to eat out on our last night and were surprised to find we were lucky to get the last table at the Blue Plate. First of all the welcome is very friendly and sincere, we're given an excellent selection of bread with oil and balsamic, I said I couldn't eat it as I have a wheat intolerance, no problem they said and produced gluten free bread. They also remembered this throughout meal ( not a regular experience for me in most restaurants) and advised alternatives or modified their cooking. The fish was very fresh and a good selection. The staff are very attentive, although quite young, and gave excellent service all night. An extremely delicious dinner was enjoyed by all our party.

“Still simply brilliant”
Reviewed October 2, 2013 via mobile

Having found this gem of a restaurant 2 years ago whilst on holiday in Cornwall purely by chance, I am pleased to report that although Nick Barclay the owner is doing a slightly different thing with the business it is still some of the best food we eat when on holiday in the area.
The restaurant has undergone recent changes into more of a daytime eatery with a fabulous deli selling local produce.
The menu is still put together daily from local suppliers and although now 'lunchtime' the quality is still amazing. The 'blue plate special' of 3 courses for £15 is value for quality that wont be seen in many other places serving food of this standard.
The young chef team supporting in the kitchen are gaining awards and qualifications left right and centre which speaks volumes about the place.
My wife and I travel to Devon to see family at least 4 times a year and we often make the extra trip to Downderry just to eat here and we are never disappointed.

“Excellent service and brilliant food”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

We wanted to have a family meal with our young grandsons and were struggling to find a restaurant that catered for diners at 2.30 in the afternoon. From start to finish we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome and the food was to die for. Most of us ate from the specials on the blackboard with local Fowey mussels a particular favourite for our starters. A lot of us ordered John Dory for our mains but we were told that the fish that had come from the local fishmonger wasn't up to scratch so we were offered a different type of sole that was just magnificent and very well cooked. All finished off with wonderful puds. Kids are very well catered for too with the most beautiful home made chicken fingers made from breast meat. The only downside is we live so far away but if we holiday this way again we will definitely be back.

“Wonderful find.”
Reviewed September 27, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I are staying in Seaton at the Mount Briori apartments and thanks to tripadvisor we found this little gem, we visited on a Friday evening and we were greeted in a very friendly way. Nick and the gang have got this pegged, superb food, great value all served in a fantastic atmosphere, the only bad bit is we are going home on Sunday and they are fully booked on Saturday evening, are well we will have to visit the area again.

“Lovely coffee - excellent service and friendly staff”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

A lovely place to meet and have coffee with friends - excellent deli there, too. There is a pleasant outside seating area where you can watch the world (village!) go by.
