“Friendly local pub in a great location.”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

We have been there a few times this year, during June, July and September. It is a flight of steps up form the beach. Sit on the deck, listen to the waves breaking on the shore, watch the sun go down and pick out the flashes of the Eddystone Light. Enjoy the beers - Jail Ale, Doom Bar and Tribute when we were there. Staff are helpful, friendly and efficient even during the busier summer holiday season. In the restaurant we have enjoyed their fresh fish cakes, fish and chips (gasps from Americans at a nearby table when they saw their 'whale' size portions!), and an excellent 'hand made' burger. Hard acts to follow so the only slight disappointment was the Cornish steak. Decorations are a little tired in places and a plumbing problem in the ladies seems to have persisted for several months . . . more than made up for by friendly atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy. Dogs welcome with well behaved owners. Child friendly. In fact really all round friendly. We like it and look forward to going back.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

Popped in for lunch, met by apathy so ordered drinks and asked to sit by window. Checked out menu and noticed flies all around, placed order then spoke to young lady behind bar to say we wanted to move tables because of the flies, she was happy to do this but shrugged off the fly problem as "that's flies for you". Food was good but we won't be coming back there is no atmosphere and way too many flies!

“Dissapointing”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

We have been visiting Downderry for almost 10 years and in that time have frequented the Inn on the shore numerous times. This visit I was sorely disappointed. The furnishings are looking very tired and the staff just didn't seem to care very much. At 8.40pm I asked to look at the menu and was told I couldn't as they stopped serving at 9pm!! The older chap behind the bar was extremely rude when I asked why different people were being charged different prices for the same drinks. He stated that they weren't, and was extremely unprofessional. We had been in the day before and had been charged different prices for the same round of drinks! Interestingly, the bar tariff that should be displayed was nowhere in sight. and when I asked where it was, I was told that they hadn't got round to putting it up.....
As it is, I wouldn't consider eating here in the future as I did not like the attitude of the staff.
The view however on the outside deck is perfect if popping in for a quick drink and is child and dog friendly.
For us, it will always be the Blue Plate or other local restaurants from now on when considering our evening meal.

“Lovely views”
Reviewed September 11, 2013 via mobile

We didn't eat here, but the views from the outside decked area are just beautiful. Such a special place to chill out and take it all in.
The bar service was quick and friendly.

Have enjoyed the food here and the views, but service not good - asked for a Kir at the Bar and the barman didn't know what it was.....
