Just came back home from Goa. While being there realized that Sri Lanka in general and Roy's hotel is much more comfortable. Ocean is only 20 meters from your room. Don't need any taxi or shuttle buses! And there's noone else around! No local people, no beach boys! And it's amazing and up 2 me, one of the most important things! We reminded Roy Villa Beach every single day while being in Goa) It's perfect for qiuet, relaxed and budget travel.

This is nice hotel and really economical. Its off the main Galle road and is right next to the railway track (so it gets noisy at regular intervals :)..)... its ideal for budget travellers as you can take your own booze (they charge a minimum corkage at the restaurant..
The food is good and the service is great... the owner got us a cake at teh last moment and offered a special table by the beach for my wife's b'day .. but couldnt sit there as it rained :)... Overall a nice place to stay if you want to chill out for sometime and dont mind travelling a bit to shop/ go anywhere

I have returned from Sri Lanka yesterday where i stayed in Roy Villa hotel. This is really nice place to be: very friendly stuff, clean rooms (Roy has delux rooms where you can have fridge, TV, aircon and hot water and standard rooms with no above mentioned. However you are not suffering from lack of the hot water at all). The only minuses i could name are:
1) neighboring railway (but u stop paying attention to it next day)
2) no entertainment in the evenings except pool (but Roy promised to make karaoke room)
All these minuses are nothing when you wake up in the morning and see Indian ocean is only 20 meters from the hotel, palms are surrounding beach and you just need to ask to bring sunbeds to start enjoing your holidays.
Restaurant at Roy's villa is very nice and recently they had renewed their menu. U can try seafood, local dishes or European by a reasonable price. City restaurants where u can be not afraid to catch some food disease are more expensive. You can also buy food like fish on the food market and ask chef to cook it at the hotel which costs almost nothing (250 Rs, 1 usd = 110.30 Rs)
In the hotel you can find free wi-fi (best signal is near the reception).
It is better for you to plan also some tours in the heart of Sri Lanka like Kandi and Sigeria. You can ask Roy for help and he will arrange it. it is better to come there by 4-6 people as the price for the car is a major paying part you will have. The more people - the less price per pax.
i would definetely recommend staying there for all who are looking relaxing and 'feel-as-at-home' trip.

If you want to spend a pleasant time in Sri Lanka in quite and noiseless place on a beautiful Indian Oceans coast for a really affordable price Roy Villa Beach hotel is exactly for you! Nice rooms, tasty national cuisine, very friendly stuff and of course beautiful beach surrounded with hundreds of palm threes that’s what you get staying there. Peaceful and quite in the morning and a little bit heavy afternoon Ocean is the best thing you need in Sri Lanka. You can just take a chaise-longue order some coconut or fresh pineapple, papaya or banana juice and enjoy it whole day long! By the way they have a pool too.
But Roy Villa Beach Hotel offers also excursions to the heart of county. Incredible Dambulla, Sigiriya, Candy were waiting for us for a really reasonable price! Three-days trip was just amazing!
The only lack of the hotel is remoteness from the stores and markets but it’s not a big problem: you can order breakfast, lunch and dinner in a restaurant for a really cheap price.
We’ve stayed at Roy Villa on February 2011 and it was really cool and !
Thank you guys for best vacation ever! Roy Villa is what we were looking for!
P.S. If you can’t find it on map and you are wondering where exactly it placed, it’s located in a Payagala North Village about 70 Km to the South form Colombo International airport.
