We stayed at North Lodge Cottage for 4 nights. The cottage is exactly as it looks in the pictures. The best bit was sitting by the stream in the garden watching birds and dragonflies. The cottage is well equipped and comfy. It is very quiet. The weather was very hot but the cottage stays cool due to the thick walls and the surrounding trees but you only have to step out into the garden to enjoy the sun and heat. Argyll is beautiful and quiet. Its a great base if you like wildlife and bird watching. We saw a beaver at Knapdale (just 20 minutes drive). If you like history, Kilmartin has hundreds of standing stones, cairns, a fort and more within a 5 mile radius. We took a day out to Oban, which is bustling compared to the rest of the region! We look forward to visiting North Lodge again.
The cottage is well equipped in a delightful riverside location. The Wi-fi and sky television reception were excellent. This is an ideal location for a relaxing away from the crowds holiday. Plus excellent communications from the owner, including a telephone call to check we were happy.
The cottage is situated beautifully on a flowing river that leads to stunning Loch Awe. We arranged for fly fishing lessons with a local provider and did day trips to Islay, Oban and the Isle of Seil. There is also a beautiful area for walks in the Knapdale forest where you can go on the Scottish beaver trail and try to spot beavers. Really worth doing!
Even in winter, the cottage is warm with the fire going and adequate heaters. It was snowing when we were there which was beautiful to see. Comfy bed and a kitchen with everything you need to self-cater.
We loved this cottage, very warm, been restored 24 years ago. Good large log store, and beautiful walks from the village of ford up through the pine forests. Comfy bed, log burner, bring some of your own wood too that is dry to enable quick burning. This cottage is used by the family who own it. Lots of books to read, cd player, tv and sky. Lots of beautiful pictures painted by the owner, my favourite being the view of a loch opposite fire. There is a parking space right on the side of the cottage and the other side is the river that runs under the road. Directly opposite is the old entrance to the estate. Ford has a hotel and a church and walks are described in the information at the cottage. The cottage would benefit from a new back door in the kitchen and some gentle modernising to improve certain features. We loved the christmas decorations, the seating and the rustic tones of the interior. All in all we were warm and happy and will come back to this area, as its beautiful.
