“Ahhh the serenity!”
Reviewed April 19, 2012

Found this place by accident when hunting for something near the wineries in Beamsville.

It is a perfect piece of calm and beauty right on the lake, surrounded by orchards. The cottages are well furnished, clean and bright, the bed is soft and comfy, there is all the amenities, and a bath and the breakfast provided is a feast even my boyfriends massive appetite couldn't finish.

The hosts are informative and friendly, and i felt like if i needed something they were there to help, but i still felt like we were secluded and private. the lake is just in front of the cottage and the view is great.

well worth it, would definitely go there again. ticks every box on the "put the world on pause" style weekend away.

Perfect for getting out of the city to hear the birds chirp and the trees rustle.

Room Tip: larger cottage easily sleeps two couples or a family, smaller cottage could sleep four, but you woul...

I Googled "pet-friendly cottages" in Ontario hoping that my husband and I could spend a nice weekend with our pet dog. Cottage by the Lake popped up as an option and by chance, Philip had availability for the Easter weekend.

When we arrived the cottage was quaint, clean and full of goodies - tea, coffee, pastries, and BACON! It also overlooked the lake, which was beautiful, given the great weather we had. The cottage is bachelor-style with the bed, fold-out couch, small fridge, table and television all in the same room. The kitchen is a tiny kitchenette with a sink, toaster oven and microwave. If you want to cook, there is a plug-in griddle. My sister ended up spending the night and along with both dogs, my husband & I, it was a bit snug but still a lot of fun.

Philip set out the litte barbeque for us so we invited some family to the cottage as well to have a nice Easter barbeque together. They brought their dog as well and both dogs were able to roam leash-free in the orchards around the cottages. Philip was cordial and friendly, coming by to say hi to everyone and was attentive to our needs. He asked us what we had planned and if we needed help getting anywhere. Also, he even left his cell phone number for us just in case. We ended up having to ask him a question and not only did he get back to us quickly, he came home within half an hour to personally make sure everything was okay!

Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend it to couples or a small family...of course with a dog! The lake view was amazing, you can see the CN tower right across the water. What a wonderful way to spend the Easter weekend.

Room Tip: Keep in mind that the cottage is very small and meant for 2 adults or a small family (2 adults and o...

My husband and I had the good fortune to stay at "Cottage by the Lake" on our recent two week visit to the Niagara Region. The previous reviewer said it all. The hosts - Philip, Sue, Bailey (the lab) and Jack (the Jack Russel) were absolutely delightful hosts and couldn't have done more to make our stay perfect in every way. The cottages are absolutely charming with all of the special touches to make you feel pampered...fresh flowers, deluxe soaps and the food !! Fresh baked goodies of all kinds and all the fixings to make a gourmet breakfast. The views and sunsets from the cottages are stunning and you will want to while away the evening hours sitting in the muskoka chairs taking in the views across the lake. If you want to feel pampered and get away while still being close to some wonderful countryside and vineyards, this is the place. Thank you Philip and Sue. We will be back.

Wow! I am almost afraid to write this review because I do not want this spot to be full when we want to come and stay-but this charming spot deserves notice. This was our second visit to Cottage By The Lake and we love it and will return year after year. The first thing you will notice is how far away you feel from everthing once you are there but yet you are less than 5 minutes from the highway. The road is a road at best but there are some lovely homes and cottages scattered about. The next thing you will notice and never forget is the view. Yes this place is really by the lake-about 5 feet! Overlooking the Toronto skyline, Hamilton, Burlington, Mississauga...you get the picture. Thirdly is the lovely property in which Cottage by the Lake sits. About 2 acres owned and lovingly maintained by Philip who also specializes in grapevine products that he makes in his shop on site. He has a very friendly Lab that will go with you on a walk-just don't go too far or you may need to carry Bailey home! The property consists of 2 cottages and Philips home. We have not stayed in the smaller of the 2 cottages-we have used the one with the clawfoot tub. The cottage is beautiful and pretty much gives you views of everything with all the large windows. There is a woodstove, a separate bedroom, kitchen and washroom. This is a bed and breakfast but in a different way. The cottage is fully stocked with everything you could dream of. There is delicious food and plenty of it to even get you to dinner. We had bacon and ham and eggs, bakery treats, fresh milk and orange juice, coffee, tea and water just to name a few. The washroom is stocked with soaps and shampoos and even a hairdryer. Really the best part of everthing is the plenty of Muskoka chairs that sit at the waters edge. We really like this place. It suits us well because we can come and go as we please and we are not structured with a particular breakfast time like in a standard B&B. Philip is very friendly and gracious with a very good knowledge of the area. I can not think of a better place to be to crack open a locally purchsed bottle of wine.
