We enjoyed a delicious, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented lunch at this delightfully old-fashioned small hotel-restaurant opposite the church in Genille. Chef Nicolas Petit and his wife Estelle took over the restaurant a couple of years ago, and are not surprisingly making a great success of it. Nicolas obviously enjoys offering guests pleasant little surprises, for example slices of crisp asparagus hidden in the bottom of the generous portion of veloute d'asperges, unusual combinations of vegetables, different with each dish, and very imaginative and attractive desserts. Everything is made and prepared in-house, including the ice-creams and patisserie, and Estelle is an attentive hostess without being over-intrusive. Not a place to go if you re in a hurry, as all dishes are cooked to order. For this reason a party of six or more is requested to choose the same menu, as Nicolas has no help in the kitchen. This might be a disadvantage for those with very different tastes.
A bonus for this restaurant is that the same cheapest menu (at 22€ in June 2012) is served at lunch-time and in the evening every day, including the weekend, which is unusual in France. The limited choice menu is changed regularly, according to the season, and everything is cooked fresh. For this reason there is no second sitting so it is essential to book ahead. Closed Wednesday all day.
