“Awesome Stay At An Awesome Place!”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

The moment we pulled into the drive we knew that our weekend at stay here was going to be fabulous. We pulled up and were greeted by the land, by the animals that Liz and Kurt have graciously adopted and were embraced with serenity. We were there hosting a weekend retreat for women and this place was truly the perfect place for us. The beautiful land and the quiet hum of nothingness, the comforting and energy and the amazing meals home cooked by Liz and Kurt nourished our not only our bodies, but our souls as well. By the time the weekend was over, none of us wanted to leave, the retreat felt like our home too and it is place that we will definitely coming back to again for business and for play. Thank you Liz and Kurt for making our stay so warm and enjoyable and for taking care of all of our needs with love, generosity and compassion. I am truly moved by who you are and the difference that you make by having Sugar Ridge open to all of us. I cannot wait to see you all again soon. If you are a conscious person, looking for an inviting, healing, transformative space to host a workshop for others, lead a seminar or do personal work on yourself, this is the perfect spot.

I attended a yoga & fitness retreat at Sugar Ridge mid-April and had a wonderful time there. Although we were looking forward to exploring the property, the weather (rain & snow) prevented us from doing so.
The cabins were warm, clean & cozy. The round retreat room where our yoga and fitness sessions were held was a great space, especially for meditation.
Liz & Kurt were wonderful hosts. They prepared lovely food for us for each meal. Our little game was to guess the secret ingredient (usually an herb or spice) that made each dish unique. And the desserts were awesome too.
I look forward to going back there soon.

Glad you enjoyed your time with us - we certainly enjoyed hosting your group. Mother Nature sure does toy with us! Snow one day and unbelievable heat the next.

Glad the food kept you intrigued; I love using fresh herbs to spice things up. Soon those herbs will be straight from our garden - soon as Mother Nature cooperates :)

I look forward to hosting you again!

The experience was more than we had hoped for. The staff, owners and other guests were just a delight. A place of quiet and beauty nestled in the woods atop hills that overlooked valleys. The food was excellent and HEALTHY. The town of Midland only a jaunt away as well as sandy beaches. Charming and restful and we look forward to making this an annual excursion.

Room Tip: okay the restrooms were not in the cabin but located in the main building, a short walk away. But th...

What a beautiful loving space!! What I loved was the whole philosophy of this retreat is reflected across the board - from the physical sacredness of the main room, the connection to nature in the dining space, the nutritious meals that delighted our taste buds, to characteristics of the family dogs. Every piece of my heart, mind and soul was touched by this wonderful place.

Practising yoga in a large, round room that allowed the outside nature sounds to fill the space while the sun shone brightly in, made it a very relaxing experience. We enjoyed several classes with different instructors and they were all very knowledgeable and able to meet the needs of the clientele. We especially liked being able to bring our dog with us and she loved the freedom of being outside in the country. It was helpful to read the "what to bring" from the website so that there were no surprises as this type of accommodation is not for everyone as washroom facilities are shared like at a camp ground, only much cleaner and more civilized.

Room Tip: Our cabin was very comfy and had 4 beds, so next time we come, we'd like to bring our grandkids...

Hi Crystal!

Thanks for your kind words - always appreciated!

It was a pleasure hosting you both and I look forward to hosting your grandkids! They'll love the frog pond and I can show them the fairy houses Ben built when he was three - they're still standing! Bran is lovely and was fun to have around. She fit right in with my dogs and liked hanging out in the office while you were in classes - she even helped me with a client!

Much love, Liz

My mum and I stayed at Sugar Ridge for 2 nights/3 days. We loved the yoga classes especially -- there was an excellent variety. Some classes were very challenging for me (and the others the opposite). While this variety is helpful for students of all levels of experience to participate, I recommend a brief class/difficulty description on the schedule. This would allow guests of the classes to wisely choose in advance what is best for their body. Overall, I thought the level of instruction was excellent and the studio atmosphere calming.

The cabins were beautiful and very quiet. Four beds in one cabin felt a bit cramped and I'd recommend some extra hooks or shelf space. I really enjoyed reading in my cabin or in the relaxed lounge space of the main building. The owners were helpful and the breakfasts were healthy and delicious. More than anything, I appreciated the sense of community which is being fostered at Sugar Ridge. Thanks to Liz especially for her warmth and welcoming nature. We'll be back!

Hi!

It was such a pleasure meeting you both - your mom is awesome! so are you of course :)

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try to incorporate them here. We have always had class descriptions on our website and have never had anyone suggest it was printed before. Perhaps posting it by the main entrance would be a great way to provide the info but not waste a lot of paper with printing it.

With the cabins we've tried to avoid bunk beds and maximize windows so guests can be in nature but really comfortable. There isn't much wall space for shelves but I'll get thinking and figure something out. I love a challenge!

Looking forward to seeing you again!

Love to you,

Liz

No fault of the owners, the weekend of the April yoga retreat it snowed! And there was ice on the trees etc. However, Liz and Kurt didn't pay attention to any of it and made everyone feel comfortable. The food was incredible, the location was peaceful. I would like to come again in the summer months to take advantage of the walking trails.
