I didn't expect a brilliant meal from this tiny beach-side restaurant. I'd been before, years ago, under a previous ownership. But, it was only a casual lunch for four people on a chilly Saturday lunchtime. My sister and I ordered fish pie which was simply gorgeous. Delicious fresh fish in a light saffron flavoured sauce with thinly sliced potatoes on top and grilled with cheese. Yum. My nephew had a venison burger with sweet potato chips and our other guest had the HUGE breakfast - including black pudding. For dessert, we ordered a Creme Brulee, a panacotta and a traditional Italian parfait. Absolutely delicious. Made with flair, subtle flavourings and realistic portions Finished up with excellent coffee. Definitely worth heading to Waikanae for. Great wine list and they do a wide selection of Tapas as well.
