Lovely outside in the sun looking out to the ocean & Kapiti Island. Great cafe style food, good service & reasonable prices.

“A gem on the beach”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We had just checked into the Waikane Beach Motel where Norm checked us in and suggested a couple of restaurants on the beach. We cruised the area for a while and then noticed some cars parked up this road near what appeared to be the Surf Club.We were suddenly right on the extensive beach at Waikane which strectches for miles in both directions. Adjacent to the Car park was a quaint restaurant called Waimea. With a combination of indoor and outdoor dining options it is well equipped to cater in all weather. Whilst we dined outside we had a look through the two levels of dining inside which by the time we left were packed with people.
Service and food was just great and the boss suggested a great red wine to boot which was available by the glass and topped off a wonderful meal. As the sun set then temperatures dropped and we could understand why most later dinners were heading for the inside options.
Marvelous views from the upstairs areas especially.
Well done team kkep up the great service and food

“They just haven't got it right”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Third visit to this place and agree with Peter M's review. Waimea has probably got the best position in Kapiti and the worst atmosphere and often service as well. We came for brunch, had to ask three times for some water and were served by an unfriendly waitress. The food was very average. This place used to be relaxed, funky and full of life. Now its bland, with dated little white metal outdoor tables chairs that are dangerously unstable - in fact the legs on my chair were coming off. Bring back the beanbags and previous owners who were so friendly.

“Sea, Sun and Shore”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed with the friendly smiles and attentiveness of the staff. A beautiful hot day, so we took a stool out on the deck with a view over the sea to beautiful Kapiti Island. A couple of cold beers,Sacred Water, enhanced this perfect Saturday lunchtime location. I had seafood soup, much better than it sounds- chunks of fish, calamari, mussels, prawn and cockles in a light tomato broth. Perfect. My mate had Waikanae crab cakes-he didn't offer to share! This is cafe style food in a great location, not high end but honest and imaginative food, prepared well

“Far better options in area”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

Tried this place for the second time and wasn't very impressed either time. Firstly the place is dirty. They have a coiled rope mat on the floor which looks absolutely filthy and worn out. The table we sat at was covered in greasy marks and the salt and pepper pots were filthy and sticky. The food is unimaginative and basic making it not worthy of a comment.
This place has a beautiful seaside location and so much potential but alias, it's being wasted at the moment.
