The waiter said they were the best fish and chips in town. Well, what else could he say? However, he was right! Great view of the Bay. Excellent service and Best fish and chips in town!

We were pleased to see that C.J's Beach House has reopened, as there are limited dining options in this little resort. Furthermore, the new owner is Jack Nieman, who has a small local chain of respectable steak houses, promising a more interesting menu for Birch Bay than the inevitable fish and chips and burgers. However, this latest venture seems to have an identity problem--undecided whether to aim for fine dining or standard seaside fare. The outcome is a mishmash of steaks, schnitzels, seafood, steakhouse burgers, pastas and sandwiches with only one thing in common--they are all overpriced for what you get. For example, halibut and chips costs over $20, and is rather greasy and not really distinguishable from the much cheaper cod. The spaghetti bolognese was quite good and a substantial helping with a tasty sauce, though a little heavy on the nutmeg so that it had a rather disconcerting aroma of egg nog. The menu said that the famous yeast rolls had a surcharge of $1:50 for two, but our server had the grace to ignore this, which was good because it was the best part of the meal. We would eat in C.J's again, as the food was somewhat better than other Birch Bay eateries. But people on a budget should forget about it until the restaurant resolves its identity issues and settles into a consistent and more affordable menu profile..

First eve of our 7 night stay asked our Concierge best place to eat in tiny burg w/ limited options. She recommended only one: this one. We tried it twice. Food was excellent; outside deck is the place to eat. Inside lacks updating or pizazz. We did try 4 of the other 6 in town that we saw. Concierge is right. Others are directed more @ beverage-fare crowd w/ food maybe 2nd place after their EXCELLENT bars. If sitting outside @ sunset, bring light wrap or windbreaker. Temp drops as fast as the sun. DECK IS ABOUT 30 FEET FROM BAY'S EDGE W/ UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW. STUNNING @SUNSET!!!

The new management of CJs does nothing to make dining pleasant. I don't think they know anything about running a restaurant, the way they treat you it seems they are catering to one time visitors only.
$5.00 to share a meal, and since the salad is extra, it $10 to share a meal with a salad.
Try to make a reservation for a group and you are first asked how much each person will spend. We even had a group reservation cancelled WITHOUT NOTICE because a higher paying group came along. I won't be back and my disappointed friends certainly won't either.
The food's just OK, but this restaurant does not deserve your business. Instead try the Via across the street of Vonna's down the beach on Alderson Rd; both have wonderful food and provide a pleasant dining experience.

Ask to sit out on the deck if the weather allows. That was the best part of the visit.
I am from Scottsdale, AZ and feel the prices are way too high for what is provided. A really good burger in AZ is less than $10. Here everything is $13 and up. The fresh fish dishes start and $22 and go up from there. $8 for a bowl of chowder is way too much for me. I realize this business depends on a strong summer season but I got the impression that our family was being over-charged for the quality of food provided. The place is packed at night so maybe the owners just feel supply and demand rules in Birch Bay. Service provided by the staff was excellent.
