We stayed at the Novotel for 4 nights in Sep 08. The staff where wonderfull and always pleasent. This hotel is where you want to go for pure relaxation. The hotel is isolated on its own beach with beautifull views. They have some locals on the beach who sell gifts etc however they do not hassle you. The hotel is a 4 star hotel for Lomobok standards. You have to remember you are in a third world country on an isolated island with poor infrastructure etc so you will not get 5 star luxury. The hotel is modeled after the local Sasac tribes which explains the style and colours.
The food was fine, the included breakfast was fine and well presented. The cafe Chilli menu could have been a bit more varied however it was ok. The resturant was pricey. Noting that the hotel is isolated so you tend to eat all of your meals at the hotel. Happy hour goes from 6pm to 10pm which is a bonus but cocktails are 80,000 rp each. You get two for the price of one for the same drink during happy hour.
Bad points - Wifi signal strength is low to very low in the hotel rooms. Internet was 70,000 rp for 2 hours however they would drop it to 50,000 for two. The time runs down each time you log on and off which is good as the Novotel in Bali time ran out 2 hours after you logged on.
The rooms where avg with king beds. The toilet door does not shut well so if you have bali belly you need to turn up the tv for the person out in the room to cover the noise.
The beach was nice, 3 pools where good and overall we came away feeling relaxed and refreshed.

We spent 4 nights at the Novotel in Lombok and had an amazing time. The hotel is in a remote part of the island (about 1.5 hours drive from the airport). You are in paradise! Miles of white sandy beaches nearby with no other real development. Keep in mind though that this will change when the government finishes its new international airport nearby (the Ritz Carlton has already snatched up beachfront property nearby). The hotel is very well maintained and is a great value ($60/night including breakfast in low season for the standard room). The only one negative about the place is the food. While the breakfasts are great, the lunches/dinners aren't (especially given the higher prices). Keep in mind though that there are many good local restaurants in Kuta (about a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk). Make sure to visit the Astari restaurant which is perched on a hill on the other side of Kuta with amazing views of the area.

The hotel is very reasonably priced when compared to other high end hotels in Lombok. The rooms were beautifully furnished and accessorised and the grounds were great. Lots to do here too, a little catamaran, kayaks, basketball, archery, volleyball, soccer etc etc, all thrown in free of charge: great for those of you who can't sit on a sun lounger for more than 2 minutes. The breakfast buffet is a sight to behold too!

I stayed with my friend in the Novotel Lombok for 3 nights between 2008, August 10th to 13th. We had a really wonderful time there. The hotel was very nice though maybe a little too quiet.

Coming from Bali, we took Merpati Airlines to go to Lombok. The onward journey was really OK (we took a MA60 aircraft which really looked very fine and safe). However, we had a 3.5-hour delay on the way back (the plane was a B777-200 that looked OK though a bit oldy). And it appears that it is pretty common. So make sure that you have time for your connections. Do not hesitate to waste some times in the airport to be sure to cactch your flights. We had "only" 4-hours for the connection in Denpasar so we missed our flight to Singapore.

In Mataram, we took a taxi to the Novotel. I had contacted the hotel for arranging the transfer but they were charging 28 USD and thought it was too much so I decided to use regular taxis. However, I recommend to use the service from the hotel for several reasons:
1. It is about the same price than taxi.
2. You will be charged directly on the hotel bill (in the airport, the money changer was closed and I had to withdraw money with additional charges from my bank).
3. The car will be of better comfort (with air-con).

The drive is about 1.5 hour from the airport to the hotel. It is a bit long but you get to see Lombok, its markets and bazars, its horse carriages, its sasak villages... A new airport will be opening in 2010 and will be only 30 minutes away from the hotel.

You notice at once when you arrive in the hotel. The road looks cleaner and decorated with small lamps on each side. The hotel really stands in the middle of nowhere. It is the hotel in the area for now but others should be built by 2010.

On arrival, we were proposed an upgrade from a superior room to a pool villa for an additional 70USD per night (less than 50 euros). After having seen the villa, we decided to take the deal and never regretted our choice, not even a second. It was just gorgeous, with its pool, its "roofed-bed" in the garden, its canopy bed in the room, its huge bathroom... It was really beautiful!

The architecture of the hotel is also really nice. They tried to re-create a traditional sasak village and did succeed pretty well.

The bar, facing the beach, is a nice place to hang around. There are two restaurants in the resort. The breakfast and lunch buffets were OK but not amazing For dinner, I would recommend the Empat Ikan restaurant. Anyway, there is no other restaurant to go outside the hotel so both can be tried...

The hotel offers a large bench of activities, including some free, among which I especially recommend "Breakfast on the hill". But it should mainly be chosen for resting and relaxing stays.
