Another excellent stay at the Windmill Hotel/Public House we will definitely be returning when we visit York and the surrounding area.
The rooms are tastefully furnished, clean and spacious with a lovely bathroom and shower with coffee/tea making facilities in the room which are replenished daily, also bottled water and biscuits which I thought was a lovely touch . We had a lovely room overlooking the garden and had a lovely peaceful relaxing stay.
I found nothing was to much trouble as I only like fresh milk in my tea I asked if I could possibly have some milk for the room at night to make a nice cup of tea and was given a small flask of fresh milk which kept it nice and cool and fresh overnight, I returned the flask and on asking for milk I was given fresh milk for each night of our stay.
The restaurant food is excellent freshly prepared and cooked we enjoyed it so much we dined in the restaurant every night during our 3 day stay and enjoyed every meal we had.
The staff are a credit to the Windmill always service with a smile even early in the day at Breakfast which is also excellent with plenty of choice to suit everyone.
Overall we enjoyed our stay so much we have no hesitation in recommending it and believe the 5 star rating we have given the Windmill is very much deserved.
Looking forward to our next visit.
Mr & Mrs Scott Lancashire.

took my grandson to flamingo land for his birthday and decided to stay over and visit york today.. what a good decision. this hotel/ pub has everything going for it.. the rooms are clean and spacious the shower does what a good shower should do. we had dinner after arriving at 7 pm and despite being busy, reserved a table for us after we refreshed and showered then changed. now i have eaten in lots of pubs , basically because of costs and convenience, but this was top restaurant food.. obviously freshly cooked from scrap. nothing pre-cooked and then zapped in a microwave but good home made food. and the price was very comparable to the plastic food found in other pubs.. the breakfast was superb with a very varied choice and served with a smile despite the early hours in the morning.. overall i have given this establishment a 5 star and very much deserved

We were staying close by and called in on our first day, to check out the menu, we were advised to book for that evening, and it was a good idea to do so, as was packed out by the time we returned.
Food was lovely and fresh tasting, Although the menu isn't huge, they have new specials every day, we ate here several times during our stay and enjoyed every meal we had, and all the staff were very nice helpful and polite.

We have been to the Windmill before but this time there were four of us & previously a group of 8 of us. We got some drinks at the bar & were shown to our table to make our choices from the menu & specials board. One our decisions had been made, one of you then has to go to the bar to place your order, this we don't like and said so at our last visit. Anyway the starters duly arrived my seafood pancake was very tasty & light so left plenty of room for the other courses. The other choices of starter including potato wedges were more filing but all very nice. Main courses of Fish Trio, Steak Pie, Lamb Shank & Braised Pork steak with black pudding were all lovely. Only two of us managed sweets & the sticky toffee was ace, three had coffees. Drinks were Thatchers Cider, Black Sheep bitter (both a bit pricey at £3.90 & £3.85 respectively) & various soft drinks. A bill of just short of £80 was pretty good value we felt.
