We are always looking for somewhere to stay when we visit our son at uni in York and we think we have now found the ideal place at The Windmill. The staff were friendly and helpful and there was a really nice atmosphere in the bar. We had a meal in the evening and the food and the service was good. The Yorkshire breakfast which was included kept us going all day. The room was clean and the beds really comfortable. I would be happy to recommend it to anyone!

We recently stayed in York whilst visiting relatives around Christmas, we were looking for somewhere close enough to York to have a look around and far enough away not to be in the center for night life, and stumbled upon the perfect place!

The service and friendliness to staff was second to none. We had only planned to eat in the restaurant on the first night but after the quality of the food, we had no choice than to eat there for the next two nights and bring our relatives with us! I would recommend the steak pie to anyone!

Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Family party visited on Friday 28th December.Left to wait nearly 1hour for food! special lasagne was special because it did not contain lasagne! More of a cheesy mushroom mush! Manager unconcerned attitude left much to be desired! They say vote with your feet and this we will certainly do! We will definitely NOT return!

Friendly bar staff but waited over 60mins for food, which when it came was watery and poorly cooked. We pointed this out when receiving the bill and had to wait a further 20mins while this was discussed with the management. They finally took £10 off a £150 bill with no apology

Arrived at the Hotel later than we expected due to a puncture & the poor response from the "4th emergency service". The welcome at the hotel/pub was superb,we were shown to our room which was spotlessly clean, compact but with everything you needed, nice bathroom with shower.
When we arrived at our table in the restaurant for our evening meal there was a list of local tyre garages which Sam the duty manager had printed off for us on the table, thats service!
Very good meal, friendly staff, nice room, breakfast o.k.
Very good stop over Many thanks.

We ate at the Windmill on satruday evening after a dys shopping in York. Although busy they managed to squeeze us in. We've eaten there quite a few times and they never fail to provide a good meal in a well kept pub/hotel. The staff are always courteous and helpful and this maintains the high standard thats been constant over the years. We'll be eating there again soon I hope!

We have just come home from an overnight stay with friends at this pub. The accommodation (10 rooms in an annexe) was excellent, spotless, warm and comfortable. I informed the staff that one of our towels was hung on the back of the bathroom door and damp and it was immediately replaced. The food was excellent (the service was slow but the pub was packed and the waitresses were rushed off their feet). The only downside was the price of the drinks which made it an expensive night. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of variety and the staff were very friendly. Would certainly stay there again.
