We have stayed at this hotel a number of times, so when visiting friends in the area it was our first choice for somewhere to have an evening meal on 16th February. We received a very genuinely warm welcome from the staff and settled to pre dinner drinks, in front of the fire, in a very comfortable lounge. The dinner that followed was superb, especially the smoked chicken, bacon and avocado starter. The service was highly professional, friendly but not intrusive. We are lucky enough to regularly visit hotels that have rosettes for quality of the food, but can say unreservedly this was the meal we have enjoyed most. The selection of wine was very good and sensibly priced. We look forward to visiting again as soon as we can.

For the second time we have enjoyed the fantastic Valentines Night dinner here - it is faultless!
Warm reception, champagne and tasty canapes in the cosy drawing room and then guided to your table for dinner. The food is extremely tasteful, elegantly presented and served with the right amount of warmth and discretion. There are lovely extra touches on the table - fresh flowers, a Valentines gift for the ladies and heart sprinkles. Brian is a tremendous chef and Jennifer the consummate host. Recommend unhesitatingly!

Arrived Friday the 14th, "valentine night", unfortunately didn't pre booked the restaurant so had to eat out, our fault / no problem, on returning went into the bar / lounge for a night cap, found both the staff and other guests very friendly, the following morning the breakfast was excellant and that evening meal was out of this world and as both me and my wife have travelled extensively we can say we mean what we say!

Our room, the crows nest, had great views, very large / comfortable bed, just a nice place to be!

Would highly recommend anybody to try this rare hotel experience!

Room Tip: For what we saw all room looked great

Stayed during the Winter deluge and was only 1 of 4 guests. Dinner was not available and we had to let ourselves in at night 10:15pm.
Rooms were very dated and the whole hotel cluttered with stuff like teddy bears and guest books to write your comments. Claustrophobic.
The building is old and majestic and set in beautiful gardens. Inside the decor is that antique cottage style with pine, patterned wallpaper, stripes and floral borders as though it all got decorated in 1994. It was well maintained and warm in morning but cold in night. The bathroom was not great - separate H & C taps! The shower was Chinese water torture standing in bath with shower curtain. Lino floor also, but all was clean and well equipped.
As a business hotel it lacks some utilitarianism. Examples are having to say what time you take breakfast and to carry a door key that is huge. The desk is also cluttered.
As a vacation hotel when it comes out of Winter hibernation it would get top marks (as it clearly does) and appeal to older folks in particular. The personal feel does starkly contrast with modern hotels so I was not impervious to its charms but would not go back.

Stayed for a weekend with friends for a special wedding. A fairy tail location over looking the bay offering a picture perfect setting. Private family run hotel, great hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Excellent food. Rooms very clean and comfortable with panoramic views close to beautiful beaches and Devon countryside. Highly recommend a visit.
