Arriving at the inn on a cold April afternoon we were warmly welcomed and given the key for room 2 which was a spacious family room furnished with a very soft double bed and sofa bed, desk (but no chair) and two bedside tables. The linen was good both in the room and shower. Fiercely hot radiators soon warmed up the room although the ill-fitting windows and secondary double glazing allowed whistling wind to accompany the sound from the largish flat screen television.
We opted to eat in the pub for the first evening, which turned out to be a great disappointment.
I chose grilled gammon with all the trimmings. The gammon was the strangest I've ever been served. It was a pale grey colour devoid of any gammon texture or taste and I am convinced it had been poached or boiled prior to flashing on the griddle. My wife's chicken breast was similarly affected being very dry and devoid of taste. Both plates went back partly unconsumed. Not wishing to draw attention to the shortcoming we did not remonstrate but found alterative dining arrangements for the following two nights, thus denying the Inn management the chance to profit more from our stay.
We found alternative eateries nearby with a carvery about 2 miles away on the Exmouth Road being very wholesome and very inexpensive.
Breakfast, however was a splendid array of bagels, pastries, cereals etc etc and lovely strong coffee.
All in all the inn is a good base to stay in order to explore the surrounding environs with several National Trust properties and delightfully quaint and almost unspoilt Victorian
seaside resorts being close by.

Room Tip: Garden rooms would probably be quieter, ours overlooking the main road junction was noisy probably not helped by the ill-fitting windows.

We went for a birthday celebration the place was nice and the staff helpful the food however was very disappointing burnt gammon and food in general was poor. Soup was cold and didn't have a dessert.

If the food was as good as the service would be nice place!!

Stayed here on business, rooms are clean warm and very comfortable, although its on a busy roundabout the rooms are at the back so they are really quiet. the pub is uber comfortable with big squashy armchairs and plenty of space between tables. The food is mediocre pub food, and the menu is disappointing, unless you like that sort of thing. acceptable continental breakfast included in the price, but they will make a cooked breakfast for a very reasonable £3.95. all in all a really nice hotel, would stay there again.

Room Tip: Book online for the super saver deals, although this is not refundable.

We have stayed here many times and it is always great and such a good spot for Exmouth and Topsham. If you don't fancy driving there is a bus right outside that goes to Exmouth, Topsham and Exeter
The staff are really welcoming. You can even order a cooked breakfast for about a fiver.

We stopped by for lunch after visiting Darts Farm (which was far to noisy and crowded). The food was very good. I had the Tuna on rice with prawns and my husband had half a chicken. Our waiter Ian was very helpful and made the visit to the restaurant a very pleasant experience.
