I stayed at the Suanthip Vana Resort with a friend the second week of January 2009. I am living in Bangkok and was looking for a quiet retreat in the middle of nature, an antidote to the noise and congestion I experience daily. I could not have been happier with this choice. This place was utterly beautiful. I have travelled to many places in the world and this was one of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen. It was like staying in the middle of a botanic garden. It was a serene paradise.
The main buildings are nice but it is completely worth the extra money for the separate cottages on stilts. They overlook the valley and the impeccable vegetable garden where the food is grown for the restaurant. They are incredibly private, and have decks that the sun slants across in the afternoon. They may not be right for everyone, as there a lot of steps to climb up and down to get to them, and they have outdoor bathrooms (lovely, but outside, and a little chilly at night!) But we were absolutely in love with the whole experience, and I took a wonderful bath under the full moon one night.
The staff could not have been more gracious and attentive. They went out of their way to accomodate our every desire, even setting up a little tour to the hilltribe villages for us at the last minute, showing no irritation at all with us when we vacillated about staying longer. We did stay longer than we had planned, and when we did go, could hardly pull ourselves away. The place has a wonderful spirit. I recommend it highly to anyone looking for a quiet retreat from real life.
