“Island Style relax”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

I came from a 5 star accommodation near the main town, feeling that I might have stayed in Europe somewhere..The moment I was welcomed with a lovely smile from Nancy and shown my fale I immediately felt that "this is the Tonga experience" I wanted. I enjoyed the view of the hammock and the ocean from my room, then walking to the entertainment area/restaurant/pool etc. Rosa is an exceptional hostess and Lola makes one feel at home. Generally Tongan people are of the friendliest people I have come across on my travels. I loved that the pool was built of stone and part of the sea washing in (who needs a conventional blue pool when you can have it in your back garden?!). .I enjoyed the snorkeling, the cocktails and later a beautiful buffet meal and kava ceremony.
I most certainly would have returned to Liku'ulofa for some more fun in the sun, had it not been for Edward who charged me $80- there and another $80- to the airport the next morning. (to go to 'Eua, also Edward's recommendation..go by ferry, people, it is safe now and at least you can see whales too..Cheap too..

Room Tip: Own bathroom and a view of the ocean = perfect Island style bathroom facilities

Stayed here for 6 days with our two daughters, 11&13. Perfect setting for a family break.
Left on a 7.20am flight from Auckland, picked up by Resort staff at Tongatapu airport and we were in the restaurant ordering lunch by 12!
Special thanks to the amazing staff, Glenda, Nancy, Rosa, Rita and Lola who made us very welcome and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed.
Rooms were clean, beds very comfortable, gardens well maintained.
Very relaxed atmosphere, felt very safe there.
The Resort puts on a brilliant show on a Friday night with a banquet and performances.
Was nearly the end of the whale season, but did see two sets out from the resort. Highlight was the excursion with Deep Blue (recommended by resort) to swim with the whales. Had a brilliant day out and were lucky enough to swim with them. Got so close it was just amazing - a real "bucket list" experience! Certainly a must do trip if you're there at the right time of year.
Will certainly go back at some stage. Thanks Liku'alofa!

Room Tip: We had two rooms with adjoining door which worked well for us as a family. Always good to have two...

We only stayed here for one night, lovely rooms and it's great to sit in the restaurant and chill out. The staff sound a horn if whales go past and we saw one in the afternoon and then in the morning before we left. The snorkelling is good if you go beyond the breakers although I recommend you go when tide is in otherwise you might get knocked about a bit by the rocks as I did. My boyfriend saw black tip sharks and loads of fish here. We thought our flight departure to Vava'u was 1445 (it was at 1300), with just 50 minutes before the flight Edward reasured the airline he would get us from the hotel to the airport (we literally ran from the beach to our room) Edward did perhaps drive faster than he probably should have and thank goodness he did as we made our flight with about 3 minutes to spare. Thank you to all the staff and especially Edward what a star you are.

Thank you so much for you review. It was great having you stay and we look forward to your return trip. We need someone to keep a lookout for the whales and blow the conch shell cheers Nancy

Had the best stay here for 6 nights. Nothing like sitting in the restaurant or on the beach with a cocktail, overlooking the sea whatching whales go past. Glenda and her team are awesome people. The resort is beautiful. The food was excellent with 3 chefs you get an wide variety. Attending their theme nights is a must do. I did not feel like we were in a rustic resort.

Be aware there are no TVs in the rooms (which we loved). Instead they have monitors with harddrives you can hire with heaps of movies on them and te internet is a bit flakey. Otherwise no ther compaints from us.

If you get the chance do an all day island tour with Edward (taxi driver) he is awesome - we had the best day. He definitely knows his history of Tonga, the kings and the sights. Worth every penny. Nancy & Glenda arranged this for us.

Room Tip: The fales on the water are the best - not as close to the other fales.

We recently spent 3 nights at Likualofa. Our 10 year old son, James, was lavished with attention- the staff always willing to play games with him, encourage his fishing efforts and achievements and just generally ensure he had a great time. A happy and safe environment with loads of fun and laughter thanks to Rosa, Rita, the chefs, builders and all the other staff. Thanks so much to you all!

We traveled to Tonga from Australia, family of four with two teenage daughters and stayed at this resort for 10 days. The place is fully refurbished and everything is kept immaculate clean. The rooms are large enough, serviced daily, with comfortable beds and private bathrooms with fridge and coffee facilities. The family that owns the place constantly invests time and money to improve the place. New snorkeling equipment, new chair mattresses on the pool chairs, new fountain on the buffet hall where cultural nights take place once or twice a week. The water is crystal clear on this beach , snorkeling is good and the place is ideal for surfing. When we wanted to visit the church on Sunday the people from the resort took us there in their private cars because buses were not running and we were treated like family experiencing first hand the amazing Tongan hospitality. The meals at the restaurant are very reasonably priced and very large because "you need to eat like a Tongan". Buses run every half hour from the resort to the town where you can catch boats to close by islands. Overall a memorable first visit to this amazing place.

We stayed for a week at this resort and it was just amazing, we saw whales jumping most mornings while eating breakfast, surfing the reef and snorkeling just 100m from the resort.

The staff were just awesome and completely accommodating for both us and our friends who stayed further down the beach. I would definitely stay at this resort again.

Big love to the lovely ladies Lola and Rita who made our week away unforgettable
