Mick and Angie went out of their way to provide service with a smile and then some. We had the largest cabin, with a beautiful view overlooking the lagoon. The dining room is nicely appointed and the food was the best we had in Belize! This area is for "Birders" and Mick gives a nice tour of the lagoon. Our other lodging experiences were lacking. If you go to Belize, This is the BEST place to stay unless you want to go 4 star and pay a lot of money. With the exception of Crooked Tree, Belize is as expensive as CA.

We were the only guests in a small empty slot in their bookings so it felt like staying in a private house. Both Mick and Angie are great cooks and the cabanas leave nothing to be desired, except a second bedside lamp for those oldies who want to read in the middle of the night but that lack was taken care of at once. We took a guide, Robert Crawford, for our early morning birding walk who was brilliant at spotting tiny birds we would certainly have missed and the lagoon was covered with many different water birds. Robert told us the location of a Jabiru stork's nest which was huge and a rare thing to see. Crooked Tree is an extraordinary place and the lodge has lovely huge old shade trees all around. They have the prettiest cats in Belize and we hope to return at a cooler time and see it in its other dress of wide water. This is a birdwatchers heaven.

We first visited Crooked Tree Lodge in June 2009 and at that time wrote:
It Does Not Get Much Better Than This
Have a look at the Crooked Tree Web Site - this tells you exactly what you will enjoy . Location is perfect, great for relaxing or exploring. The people of Crooked Tree Village are friendly and always pleased to chat with visitors. We were there for several days in June, 2009 and enjoyed ourselves enormously. Mick, Angie and family are wonderful hosts and take great care to understand and provide ones every need. Not to be missed.

Well - in February 2011 it was the same but better!
Last time forgot to mention the excellent food.
Once again we would say "not to be missed"

As part of a birding tour, we spent 3 nights at Crooked Tree. I would return in a heartbeat. This is not a commercial style hotel; it is a quiet, homelike establishment with individual cabanas. Meals are served in the family home. Mick and Angie are superb hosts. Being there was like being guests of a family. The cabanas were very clean and comfortable; the food is home-cooked, put out on a table for buffet style, and very very tasty. One day we had freshly caught tilapia; one evening a homemade chocolate cake that made my knees weak it was so good. The grounds are very well maintained and attractive. Because the lodge is in a remote area, there are no big bright lights, so you can enjoy the incredible stars at night. This is an ideal place for a quiet, restful stay. As birders, we found it ideal as it is located right in the wildlife sanctuary. Thanks, Mick and Angie!

Only stayed one night, but would have loved to stay longer, lovely location, great food, nice cabanas, good selection of drinks (we ran up a lengthy bar tab bird & star watching!, including shooting stars)
Go for a walk round the village & nature reserve (buy a ticket & get a map by the causeway, just hang about someone will turn up)
Very relaxing place with nice people, would go back again anytime.

We stayed 2 nights on a self drive tour of belize and really enjoyed it. Our cabana was stylish and comfortable with lots of room and great hanging space. Note there was only an arch to the bathroom from bedroom so if your shy!!!!
They helped to organise a trip to Lamanai with no problems, the food is amazing too and lots of it! Mick was really helpful in answering all questions during pre-booking.
Ask for directions when you pay the sanctuary fees as the first turn is not well signed for the lodge. MIght be better with an honesty bar so can get a drink without having to find someone but that is only a small down point.

We stayed almost a week here and camped because we were on a bike tour of Central America. We fell in love with this place and the beautiful little village. The family that runs Crooked Tree Lodge are possibly the sweetest people on the planet.

The rooms are nice and the showers and bathrooms great, the food is delicious, the bar is rustic and situated right on the beautiful waterfront. Taking a kayak out on the water first thing in the morning and at sun down is an out of body experience. So many birds live there its impossible to describe. Our time there was so good we nearly stayed on and worked for a number of months, sadly our future took us elsewhere.
