We stays here in September and LOVED it. The service was excellent. The wait staff, front desk, cleaning staff, all went above and beyond. We felt like we have our own personal staff they were so helpful. I am not sure how many guides they have, but we were blessed with Anthony (Tony) he rocked! He knows his stuff and you can see really loves his country and his job and he's good at it. The room was large and airy (with great A/C), and we loved all the wildlife we saw right on the resort. Really, if you asked me what they could change, I would say nothing.

This lovely resort is located about 20 minutes outside of Belize City on the river in Burrell Boom! It is a quiet, clean resort that is safe and comfortable. Belize City itself seemed rundown and certain sections were unsafe. The hotels in Belize City seemed older and rundown and the neighborhoods were poorly kept. Burrell Boom offered a great option of relaxation and wildlife outside of the city but very close to the airport. The resort is located on the river and is very quiet. The pool is comfortable and the room accommodations are basic, clean and comfortable. The staff and service were great and the food was very good. Belize City did not offer much charm in its accommodations so I highly recommend this location on the bookend of a trip to Belize. Transfers to the airport are arranged and included in the rate. A very relaxing way to spend our last night in Belize.

The staff are wonderful, especially kind Kenny. He is a great guy. Food was delish n rooms were well decorated with murals and bathrooms nicely tiled. Highest recommendation for this place, will go back if we have the chance!

Thank you!

I would recommend this resort to almost everyone and here is the reason why. The resort has wildlife on the property (Black Howlers, Iguanas, Basilisk Lizards, geckos and an assortment of insects) and has kayaks/canoes to go exploring. The drawback is that nothing is close (store/groceries) so you'll either have to have a rental or rely on the resort to provide everything. The food was excellent and if you can beg for the green squash soup, do it. It was amazing! They have a really great pool so get in some swimming while you're there.

We kept busy and did 5 or 6 tours while we were there. Take a day for each of these: Tikal, Zip-Lining, Rappelling, Cave Tubing and Crystal Cave, and if you like snorkeling do Ho Chan and Shark Alley. We also did excursions at the zoo and the Howler Monkey Sanctuary

Finally, the employees. I've been around the world (25+ countries) and this group was by far the BEST! Anthony (Tony) was our guide for 5 days. I can say that I met a truly incredible man. He knew so much about his country and had great stories about fishing, being around nature, and his three kids and dogs. I will be back and I will find Tony so we can have dinner and chat. ASK for him!!!! The front desk employees and restaurant staff always asked us how our day was and actually wanted to hear us tell the stories. Please don't be mad but I can't remember everyone's names but Funischa, Eddar, Jose and Kurt kept us going everyday and made the trip really special.

This resort may not be for everyone. They don't have a spa (yet) or rooms like you'd find in a Parisian resort but if you like nature, cultural food and history and are thinking about Belize, make this your one and only stop.

We came for a week, and from the start, we were impressed with everything about the Black Orchid. The room was large and airy (with great A/C), and we loved all the wildlife we saw right on the resort. The food was great - healthy and well-prepared, with lots of local cuisine choices as well as some fancier turns of spoon. Special requests were no problem. But the greatest thing about the Black Orchid are the staff - everyone is knowledgeable, helpful and genuinely friendly.

We used the resort as our base for excursions, and they are extremely well-organized. Whatever you want to do, they will have a way to do it, and the tour guide you are assigned will have special interest in that area. Anthony knows the City and it's history, Ryan is the "bird man of Belize," and so on. We could see that Black Orchid management knows how to recognize and develop talent, in a congenial work environment.

Unfortunately, midway thru the trip my husband had a serious medical emergency away from the resort. That's when everyone at the Black Orchid stopped being staff and started being family. Our driver stayed with us faithfully and beyond while we got to help. Staff looked out for my needs as well as my husband's in every possible way. This was not "by the book." - it was an outstanding example of humanity at its very best. And it made a tremendous difference to us.

We're home now and husband is doing very well. But we do miss our friends at the Black Orchid, and would return in a heartbeat. When you go, say hi for us.

Room Tip: Ask for the iguanas - we could see them every evening from our front porch. :-)

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a 2 week trip. The hotel was ok, really nothing to complain about, but not excellent. The staff were friendly, room was clean and comfortable. We were tired of doing tours so wanted to just relax. One day we rode bikes around the area, one day had a really enjoyable kayak paddle upriver, and we took daily walks to Burell Boom and back. The airport transport is a real PLUS! and getting to see the howler monkeys hanging out all morning in the trees was amazing! We enjoyed sitting and watching the river and birds. The breakfasts were ample and varied. The negatives for us were the small pool and the fact that the hotel had a huge group event that took over the entire pool and grounds one day, and a big cruise ship group tour that arrived for lunch another day. Really destroyed the peaceful ambiance. I would return, but probably just for a one night stay coming or going to Belize.

Lovely place to stay near the river and surrounded by nature. Grounds were kept clean. The room was huge with gorgeous decor. The bed was comfortable and the TV had all the channels basic and international. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was great at the hotel restaurant. I recommend the Belizan breakfast. Everything is freshly made. I like that the restaurant has two options for dining, inside and outside. The outside part has screens so no need to worry about mosquitoes. The pool area is very quiet so if you would like to relax and read a book without interruptions you may do so. The river gives it a nice touch and they have paddle boats which you can use. There is also a hammock section to relax. This hotel is all about comfortability , the staff will stop at nothing to make sure that you have all that you need. It is about 15 mins from the airport and also very close to any excursions yo may wish to go on. The hotel takes care of everything for you so if you would like to do something such as go to the belize zoo, bamboo sanctuary or cave tubing they'll get you the best deal with transportation. A suggestion is to bring lots and lots of bug spray with you because mosquitoes are everywhere and will get you! I would highly recommend this resort to anyone whom wishes to travel to Belize.
