“Hidden wee gem”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Me & a few girls choose to go to high head spa for a half day packaged followed by lunch. What can I say can't fault it at all. Spa and treatments where fab then at lunch we headed to the tea room for our lunch which was included in the price for drink of our choice, sandwich and a tray bake. I was full to the brim lovely fresh bread with lovely filling and fresh salad followed by a Hugh bit of chocolate cake all home made. Will deffinatly be back but go for longer to go the sculpture walk as well. Deffinatly a hidden gem

“Afternoon Tea with brilliant garden view”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Great choice of sandwiches followed by fresh cream scones with amazing jam and lovely selection of home made cakes. At £9.50 a head including tea/coffee this was great value (and they offered to pack up our left over cakes so we could take them home). A lovely late Mother's Day treat. Sit at the window - we saw greenfinches, robins, chaffinches and even a woodpecker (and lots of different types of another garden bird which I can't name as trip advisor thinks I'm using a swear word). We'll be back! Can't comment of the sculpture walk as we only visited the tea room.

“Where sculptures go to die”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We were on holiday with 2 dogs and our 3 year old and from the website High Head seemed a great place that we could all enjoy. The mini-gallery and cafe seemed nice, though we didn't stay there long as the dogs were restless. We paid our £5 and went through the dog walking entrance which is right beside the play area, which is small but much enjoyed by our little boy. We then set to walking and straight away we could see it wouldn't be great. There were nettles everywhere and most of the sculptures were broken, rusting or had been claimed by their surroundings. The signs that told you the artists' names were all faded (they were only laminated paper after all) and the supposed 'willow labyrinth' that was actually marked on the ancient map we were given was just a mown path through yet more nettles. We decided to walk to the 'stone circle' which was also marked on the map, hoping for the promised views of High Head Castle. On the way there were viewpoints, which gave a lovely view of various bushes and grass. And so, on to the stone circle, a ring of small sandstone slabs in the middle of a grassy field. With a missing sign. And a missing castle. And then the heavens opened and we trudged back down the hill, disappointed and hungry, but too annoyed to eat in the cafe. Cue a long trip to Penrith where we had a lovely dinner at The Agricultural Hotel to make up for it!

It is okay for spending a little time here as there is not much to the place. There is an art gallery, cafe and tiny play area but the walk is good for the sculpture trail.
