“A Room With A View”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

What can i say, this resort is a hidden treasure! Beautiful located on the east side of the lake in between Como and Bellagio. Very luxurious and part of the small luxury hotels of the world. We hired a car from Malpensa Airport ( Milan) and it took about an hour or so to reach. From Como the road is very craggy and windy so some confidence is required. there are different levels of accommodation to choose. Was lucky to be upgraded on arrival to a room with a balcony view of the lake which was spectacular. The room was super modern, nice huge walk in wardrobe as well as extra wardrobes in the bedroom, small mini bar stocked with the essentials...Free Wi Fi. he Spa area/Indoor Pool/ Hamam/ steam room/Sauna/ rain showers is pretty spectacular, only thing is if you enter at 10am when it opens it takes some time to heat up so a bit of a waste of time ( would be nice if they turned things on earlier) Hotel staff are wonderful and always eager to please. Reception staff very helpful and also can book you nice restaurants to go to along the lake on there recommendation ....Breakfast was very delicious with a variety of Italian choices as well as typical western breakfast- fresh coffee- espresso!! Ordered some Pizza and salad in the main building on the patio- Pizza was average however the Food and Beverage Manager informed me that soon they will have a wood oven Pizza and cater for small snacks etc which will be great- One night we were invited to a wine and cheese tasting event followed by a 4 course dinner- this was extremely fantastic and even though it was all in Italian one of the staff sat with us to translate- the dinner was held in the glass atrium/restaurant and it was a lovely evening of food and wine ( and i must thank the manager that they did not charge us for this and they were ever so kind and generous- unforgettable evening!)The Views and the gardens of this resort are amazing -check out this trailer to tempt you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCkoEA5DjN0&feature=player_embedded

Valet parked my car and bought it to my room efficiently as well!
My only complaint was it took forever for them to bring ice to the room so it was faster for me to get it at the bar!!

This is a tricky one - we have just returned from Casta Diva and it is the most beautiful place. Set within large grounds, by the lake, lovely staff and a combination of various villas! But when we left we said to one another 'would we return' and we weren't really sure!! The Pros and Cons from our point of view:

Pros
Fabulous location
Friendly, helpful staff
Upgraded to an amazing suite with a huge terrace, sitting room, dining room and kitchen
Excellent comfortable bed with fabulous sheets and towels
Spotlessly clean
Spa - very grand
Free mini bar with soft drinks and 3 packets of snacks
Reliable, free and efficient shuttle bus into Como (20 euros one way by taxi)
Peaceful

Cons
You can't walk anywhere - it's either shuttle, car or taxi
Efficiency of communications - it took an age to get a reply to our emails before we arrived. We had to chase on several occasions. Once there - communication was still inefficient
Suite was rather bare to make it comfortable ie. no docking station, no DVD, no Tea/coffee making facilities, no English speaking TV channels although there were loads of other international TV channels (we had a couple of days of very bad weather so at least BBC World or CNN would have helped!), no wine glasses (apart from those for toothbrushes in the room)
Poor shower
Not all lights in the suite worked
Resturant staff lovely, but the restaurant had little atmosphere and food not great
No visible management

This may seem nit picky, but the hotel wasn't cheap - we paid 530 euros per night. It seemed to me (like another reviewer said) perhaps a tighter management rein may help with some of the 'cons'. Not once, did we see 'management' and there were no feedback quesionnaires so they can get guest feedback.

Having said all that - we had a very nice time and would certainly go back to the area in a flash, Casta Diva? - jury's still out!

Room Tip: I believe all rooms have a lake view. It is set in the side of a moutain so there are steep walks t...

We ended up in this place as this was the only hotel available in late August when all Italians take vacations. We weren't sure about it as it was very expensive and had mixed reviews. But Casta Diva exceeded all our expectations. This is real heaven on Earth with wonderful rooms, great service, excellent food and the most romantic setting. Worth every penny.
Dinner at their terrace with Opera singers on Thursday night made me cry. The food, the service the dessert i can't say enough. And i've been all over the world so i am not easy to impress.
I saw many people at dinner and breakfast who were bitter and i couldn't understand why would you have such an unhappy grin on your face when you are getting pampered like that. The only explanation i could find was that you are paying a lot of money for this and you are expecting miracles and thinking that maybe this will make you happy. This is my answer to the bad reviews; If you are complaining about the service there go to Paris and come back and than let's see what you say. Italians might not be perfect, but at least their nice and they love life and food.
The spa is one of the most modern and amazing spas i ever had a pleasure to try. If it's raining or you're bored you can spent all day in there.
There is a floating pool with view that you can stare at all day long. You can rent a motor boat and see the lake. Bellagio looks stunning from the water.
If you are looking for a romantic long weekend getaway this is the place to go.

I debated booking this property due to the mixed reviews and reached out to a few members with questions before I booked. The reviews are correct – it is a beautiful resort with a wonderful location right on the lake and very kind staff. It is, however, when compared to other luxury hotels I'm familiar with, a bit off. The staff is so kind and willing to help but appear to be a bit undertrained – almost apologetic.

Our room was fantastic. We had a gorgeous view of the lake, a huge bathroom and comfortable bed/living area. I had debated Villa d’Este or Casta Diva and booked because I liked the rooms more and I was not disappointed. I went into the rooms at Villa d’Este and from what I saw, they were not as nice. Other reviewers noted the property was difficult to get around – we didn’t find this to be the case. There are a few different “villas” you can stay in and ours was fairly close to the main building but walking around was nice for us and not at all challenging.

On that note, the resort is impossible to walk to/from any shops or restaurants off of the property. You need to take the shuttle (runs 6x a day to Como and back – latest route is at 5:00pm) or private car/taxi to get anywhere. Other resorts are in little cities where you can walk to get a bite or something else. At Casta Diva it’s really just the resort that is the option. It’s a great option – just be prepared for that.

Overall I’d say it’s a great hotel with so much potential. I hope this doesn’t offend the truly kind and sweet staff we met but it appears they need a general manager to come in and just tighten everything up. It’s hard to put your finger on exactly what it is, but I think it’s driven by a desire to please but just not sure exactly what steps to take.

I would recommend a visit if you’re looking for a way to detach from everything and relax. It’s a peaceful and calm retreat.

Room Tip: try to face the water - you're in Lake Como, enjoy the views!

we satyed for 4 nights and had a lovely large room and bathroom. on the first night though the restaurant left a lot to be desired in both food and service. it was full bein a weekend so although we were in early there was still a lack of staff and the service was not good. we ate at a local pizzeria the second night which was great valua and atmosphere and decided to give the restauarant one more go as driving locally at night is not a relaxing experience. the second dining was great both food and service markedly improved though by the i think we had made our presence felt!! we hired a boat for the afternoon which wa expensive especially when we moved onto the villa deste net and walked down to where we got the boat from to find thyat hiring it direct would have cost a quarter of the price. the other negative we had was the transport at the hotel via golf buggy which is a necessity if dressed for dinner or inclement weather as it can take up to half an hour for them to send a buggy up even when the hotel is quite empty. During the day it is not a problem if you are able to cope with the steep descent. Lunch on the terrace is a delight but be prepared for slow service ( not a problem for us) and courses arriving at differnt times ie can be 30 minute difference betwenn 2 people being serve. Overall though the position is wonderful and the rooms great but attention to service could be improved.

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Beautiful mansion exquisitly decorated, fantastic view over the lake como, such a silence, heaven! The bedrooms are located in new buildings that blend really well in the lqndscape and overall theme of the resort. You can walk from one building to another or you take a golf cart. Just dial 4 and here they are to help you. Your needs are anticipated to respect your privacy as much as possible. But if you need anything that would not have been thought of, you will get it very fast. The spa area is stunning. Dark and colourful, peaceful and revigorating at the same time. The most beautiful I have ever seen.
If you are looking for a place where to meet people, interaction, etc., if you are an attention-seeker, this hotel is not for you. The staff you need is there but will not follow your every step to jump each time you sneeze. On the other hand, if you want to spend the most wondeful moment of privacy with your loved one, this hotel is for you. Do not look any further.

Room Tip: I do not think ther could be any room better than an another one.

The hotel has incorporated timeless Italian elegance with quirky modern touches, fabulous views, peace and security.
The staff were some of the most helpful and friendly we have ever encountered.
My only complaint was that I found it impossible to reach the bath taps! The taps were on the far side of a bath which was extremely wide which meant getting into an empty tub to turn the water on!
Four stars because there is always room for improvement although it's difficult to see where at Castadiva. Maybe one English channel on the tv?
