After a long drive, we arrived at the beautiful residence of La Feuillade. First thing that cought the eye: so much space! (Okay, let's be fair: our children mostly noticed the trampoline, play house and the super friendly dog ;)). Right after that: a beautiful swimming pool, a lovely cottage with an enormous bathtub and lots space to run around and play for our children. Tony and Sonia were always there if we needed anything and gave us tips on things to do that are not 'in the books'. Tony brought by homemade Gazpacho.. it was truly lovely.
TIP: since we were travelling by car, we brought along all kinds of things we needed (or thought we needed) for our kids, but really: that wasn't necessary at all. Tony and Sonia can provide practically anything, from baskets and spades to play with at the lake, to baby stuff you might need (cot, highchair, you name it). So don't worry about flying there and travelling light.
To sum it up: we have had the perfect holiday with our two small children!
This delightful holiday rental feels like a classic French country cottage. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped, both bedrooms are generous, the lounge is comfortable and the bathroom facilities are excellent, particularly the family-sized "Turkish-style" bath. Outside, the setting is beautiful, with a lovely pool, acres of garden and meadow and pleasant walks down to the river.
To describe the cottage as "kid-friendly" is really understating things - inside the cottage was everything you could need in terms of special bowls, plates, cutlery, toilet seats, while outside the pool is walled and gated, and given the opportunity our two year old would have spent the whole holiday in the playhouse and on the trampoline!
Tony and Sonia were delightful hosts and we felt very at home. The generous provision of some basic staples in the kitchen was a nice touch, especially Sonia's excellent homemade jam and marmalade! Ruby, the dog, is as soft as they come and endured our children's attention admirably all week.
The village of Saint-Front-de-Pradoux and the town of Mussidan are both within walking distance of less than a mile in either direction, with a particularly good boulangerie in Saint-Front. Be sure to visit Restaurant Lou Marmitou superb, very French restaurant just outside Mussidan. They only serve a set menu, but we enjoyed delicious soup, entrée, main, cheese, dessert and coffee, with wine, for two adults for less than 30 euros! We visited more than once.
Although we enjoyed a couple of days of pottering around the gardens and relaxing by the pool, there's plenty to do in the local area. We'd anticipated travelling towards Bordeaux once or twice, but ended up finding so much to do locally that we didn't bother with the longer journey. Tony and Sonia had ample ideas to share, but our kids particularly enjoyed Le Bournat, a recreation of a 1900 French village.
Overall we had a great holiday, and although the cottage already had great reviews, it managed to exceed our expectations in every respect.
We arrived late and Tony welcomed us as relaxed and offered to bring over some food and wine as supermarkets were already closed. Throughout our whole stay their hospitality was always there but never too presence.
The gite/house is fully equipped and lovely decorated. Our evening walks to theriver way back in the huge garden/land where really nice. Location is great for all your family trips to Dordogne's main attractions, (especially when the weather is too chilly to go for a swim in the pool at the house) all max 1/1,5 drive. Also some great tips from Tony and Sonia where to go for wine, dinner, castles etc!
We had a bit of bad luck with the weather, but we had a great 10 days anyways :)
Have just returned from a perfect week. The accommodation was spacious and clean and had everything you could ask for. The bedrooms were comfortable, with a gorgeous bed in the main room. The bathroom was a real treat with a huge bath and the kitchen was open and spacious and had everything you needed. We spent a lot of time around the pool which had loungers and umbrellas and some inflatables which my daughter loved. Because the water was salt and not heavily chlorinated it didn't hurt your eyes or affect your hair at all. The playhouse, trampoline and football field were also a hit with my daughter with plenty of grounds for us to explore and play in. My husband enjoyed fishing the river catching catfish, bleak, bream and roach and it was a lovely place to sit and watch the wildlife. Tony couldn't have been more helpful giving us lots of ideas and places to visit or eat. The whole family were very welcoming including ruby the dog who often popped by to say hello. Was a great area to explore, close enough to shops and towns but you still felt away from the hustle and bustle. Thanks we will be returning.
La Feuillade Cottage is a perfect place to feel like you are really away on holiday. Set in acres of beautiful land with a river at the side of the huge garden it is the setting for a perfect holiday.
It provides a pool for lazy hot days and drinks in the evening.
The hosts Tony and Sonia are super friendly and have extensive knowledge of what to do and see.
The accommodation is ideal for a family of 4 and wifi is included pleasing teenage family members! Well furnished and clean. Bordeaux and St Emilion are close by for day trips, if it's a beach you need there is an amazing inland lake (with a beach) approx 25 mins drive away.
I would highly recommend a stay here for the Dordogne region. You will not be disappointed.
Having been recommended a stay at La Feuillade we were not disappointed. This was our first holiday in France (with the exception of city breaks to Paris) and we had grand plans to go everywhere and see everything. And indeed there are lots of places to visit, but we somehow became enchanted with this wonderful hideaway and didn't leave it very often during our stay! We have returned having met the very lovely Tony and Sonia and bring home with us lovely memories of a very relaxing holiday (as well as some local wine!)
Having recently returned from this wonderful part of France we will have fond memories of this beautifully decorated and comfortable gite. The accommodation was well equipped to a very high standard and is situated to provide welcomed privacy. There is an attractive pool area to be freely used by guests and our son was kept well entertained– huge garden, trampoline, table tennis, fishing.
We recommend the public lake with kayaks and sandy beach (20 minutes away). Try the local restaurant with its daily set menu - very well priced.
The hosts were very obliging with great local knowledge.
We have no hesitation in recommending this authentic French hideaway.
