This is a place we have been going to for years.....everything was good, but and here.comes a big BUT.....I do not like to eat witha mouse eating a french frie under the table next to us! As we were leaving, another was in the vestabule! I think they could clean the place up a bit and hire an exterminator. All I kept thinking was if there were mice in the front, what's happening in the kitchen!

I have been going to Bass Lake for almost 30 years, and was very pleasantly surprised on a recent visit with how much the quality and selection of food have improved. Same friendly service as always, but everything just tastes better these days. Recommended place on highway 169 not far from Bala and Port Carling..

Bass Lake is the quintessential road house. Everyone is so friendly, the servers recognize regular customers, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the food is great and the beer is the perfect temperature. The wings are outstanding - no they don't have 48 different varieties, they just have outstanding wings. The steak sandwich is always a treat, and " the football" panzarotti can quench any hunger. Jen has been there forever, and does she know pub food! Graham is a charming host, the servers are incredibly efficient and always enthusiastic, with great people skills. You will often see NHL players and movie stars travelling incognito with their families, along with many happy locals, and all feel equally at home here. No visit to Muskoka is complete without a lunch or dinner at Bass.

We knew we were in trouble when it took the waitress multiple trips back to our table to take our drink order (and then still forget one). There were 4 of us and we came in slightly ahead of a family of 6 and another table of 4. Granted they were busy on an early Saturday evening though we were perplexed that the meals and appetizers for the family of 6 come ahead of ours. Our waitress went past our table multiple times with plates to be cleared (we had them piled for easy pick up) and then only came over when we waived her and asked that she remove them to make room. It took another 3 requests for a coffee and specialty liqueur following the meal as well as a second request for a dessert menu. The food was fine, nothing spectacular or memorable. The ambiance was quite busy and it seems as though it was a busy place for take out pizza orders. Would I go back? If I was really hungry and there wasn't another option.

The wings are always excellent, and the beer is always cold. A great stop to break up the drive to the cottage. We've seen this place evolve over the last 20+ years, and although you're certainly paying Muskoka prices, the food and service has been consistently decent. The atmosphere is laid back as it should be, but you can be in and out in an hour with no problems. Bonus points for a sign that makes fun of Oakville yuppies.
