Description: Owner Roger Patten has been a chef for 50 years and started Penny Garden Restaurant with his wife Pam & daughter Jasmine. Before commencement of construction, old Australian pennies were discovered at the entrance to the site. This, combined with the picturesque views and a love of plants & fauna by the owners, formed the history behind the name Penny Garden. Chef Earl Mashmett has over 20 years experience in bars & restaurants in Perth and has created a fresh menu using local produce wherever possible. With gluten free and vegetarian options available, Penny Garden is happy to cater to dietary requirements. All cakes, salad dressings, sauces & marinades are made right here on the premises. Penny Garden is a fully licensed venue with good range of wine, beer and spirits and we also offer split billing. However, you may BYO wine / champagne if you wish (corkage charged at $5 per bottle). We recommend booking to ensure your table

“Menu for every Taste”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

I had never been to this restaurant so thought I would take some friends there, one being a diabetic and can be difficult sometimes to find suitable restaurants but with the extensive menu at the restaurant everyone could be catered for.

When we walked in to say our name for the booking we were greated by the most delightful staff and to sit down and find water on the table waiting was a bonus. During our meal the manager of the restaurant, Penny, came around to ensure everything was to our liking.

I could not fault the menu, staff and setting. What a way to spend a Sunday lunch.

I can certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone and I am sure everyone would be pleasantly surprise.

“Great winter menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

Met friends her on their recommendation & had a lovely meal. It was a very cold night & I was concerned when I read it was located in a converted shed, however it was quite comfortable inside. The menu has a lot of winter favorites like chicken pie & beef stew. Most dishes were served with mash & the servings generous. I had a moment of meal envy when the veal arrived for my friend! However I did enjoy my lamb filo. Overall a pleasant experience with great service without too much fuss. Prices about normal for Perth.

“Good food noisy shed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

All 5 of us had different meals and generally they were all good, although my first kangaroo dish was just warm (not hot) and the meat was quiet rare and bloody, but the second one was perfect. The service was good and the view was OK. The venue was a large shed with not ambience and had nothing to deaden the background noise of the other customers, rather like eating in a food hall. I thought the cost of the food was a bit expensive especially the deserts e.g. a slice of lemon meringue pie was $9.90 when the same at a Dome would cost $6.90. All in all a nice meal, would I eat there again, maybe!

“Good food and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

My friend and I both ordered barramundi that was to die for - best I've had. Then we indulged divine desserts, enjoyed with a bottle of Olive Grove bubbles - local winery. Will definitely be back!

“Great Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

Had lunch here last week. The restaurant is in a large tin shed, casual dining overlooking a dam and vineyards. The name is probably a bit miss leading, I thought it was going to be something small in a garden, but hey, the food was really good, although a bit pricey. Had the trio of dips to start with which were excellent, steak sandwich which was excellent, the steak was extremely tender, melt in your mouth in between garlic bread. Really Good. Another had chicken parmigiana and demolished it. Steak sandwich was around $24, the parma was around $28. If your looking for great food whilst in the Swan Valley, and aware of the prices, (hop onto their website so you have no surprises), and are not overly interested in the setting, then definitely eat here. The service from 2 out of 3 people were extremely friendly and helpful, one was a bit flustered. Would definitely eat here again.
