The garden is really interesting and is full of hidden suprises.
The castle and the hall are really interesting to look around too. Parking is free and amble. Perfect for picnics and family visits.

“Castle and Grounds”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

Very nice grounds, castle and house. The house is under repair. There is a cafe and picnic areas out and in doors. In the early spring there are robins and small frogs.

Belsay is a very pretty village.

“Belsay Hall and Castle”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

This property is under the stewardship of English Heritage. It is well worth a visit and there is entry to the hall and parts of the Castle. The Gardens are very formal near the House, and the Quarry Garden is seen on the walk from the house to the Castle. As with most English Heritage properties it is well kept and offers easy walking for everyone including chair bound visitors.

“This is a hidden gem”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

I'm not into old buildings , houses etc, but this is something special, the gardens are in an old quarry and are amazing and there is often art to see here, it's a fantastic place and the blacksmiths cafe at the entrance is worth popping into first

“Great day out”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

The castle is about half a mile from Belsay house. In between is the quarry garden. The quarry was used to provide the stone for the house. All 3 attractions are splendid and provide a great day out. The real plus about the house is that it is unfurnished so yo uget a real fell for the architecture of the place. It's the best English Heritage/ National Trust house I've visited.
