“Treasure in the midst - a MUST stay place for Doolin - a walk from McGann's”
Reviewed December 20, 2009

Maeve Fitzgerald has so many stories to share over her last 29 years of opening her house to travelers from all over the world. This place is only a short stroll from McGann's and it is just across the street from McDermott's (Two of the places you WANT to visit). You will NEVER forget Maeve's homemade scones(biscuits to us Americans). She made us feel very welcome and while our stay was short it was memorable. We would gladly go back and stay at Churchfield in a heartbeat. BTW, there is a church just up the road from the B&B. If you had to choose ONE place - choose this one. I'm glad we were lucky enough to experience Doolin via Maeve and Churchfield.

Churchfield B&B was a delightful respite right in the middle of Doolin. Maeve Fitzgerald is a treasure -- we felt like family visiting with her. Our room was quite comfortable and had a lovely bathroom/shower that had been recently redone. The beds were cozy and warm. Maeve is a world-class baker; her brown bread and scones at breakfast were delicious. We really enjoyed a proper full Irish breakfast! She was happy to spend time with us telling us about Doolin, what to see and where to go. She also told us what not to waste time seeing. While we were enjoying breakfast, a herd of cows was being moved from one pasture to another, and they paraded right in front of the driveway! Only in Ireland!!! When I return to Ireland next year, Churchfield is high on my list of places to stay. It was a thoroughly wonderful experience!

We stayed for 1 night in July 2009. The accomodation is average - the room was a biit shabby, and the bathroom was a bit basic though very clean. However, the owner Maeve is a gem and epitomises just what an Irish 'bean an ti' should be like - warm, hospitable and very practical. We had to pre-order our breakfast the night before and say what time we wanted it - not a problem, but a bit unusual. As we left, Maeve gave my daughters two Euros each to buy a chocolate bar! The location is very good - Doolin is a fantastic place, and the B&B is a short walk from the bars and restaurants. It is just 100m from MacDermotts, which is definitely the best bar for live music (I tried them all!). We paid €100 for a family room, which was good value. There are probably better places to stay, but I liked Churchfield and would recommend it for a taste of Irish hospitality.

My husband and I traveled with another couple to Ireland at the end of June. We stayed two nights in Doolin at Churchfield. The location is just across from McDermott's pub and less than a block from McGanns pub. Even though it's near the "nightlife" of the tiny town of Doolin, it's not noisy at all.

The room was a little small, and the bathroom was in a corner so it had a sloping ceiling. With my husband being 6'4" it made that a little challenging. The pillows on the bed were flat and hard, which is completely opposite of the type of pillow that works for me. Our friends slept fine though, so it's just a matter of personal preference.

The place had charm though, and the best part about it was the owner, Maeve. She was awesome, with a bit of a salty personality. She made us feel extremely welcome and gave us tips on where to go and what to expect from local places. She also made reservations at another B&B for us in the next town we were heading towards, which was so sweet of her. We would go back to this B&B just to hang out with Maeve some more.

We first visited Ireland in 2003 and stayed at several B&B's, but the Churchfield was the only one we wanted to go back to during our second trip.

Maeve makes you feel like a valued guest, and the rooms are modern and very clean.

Doolan and the Churchfield are great little jewels of Ireland.
