Owner description: A Stunning Underworld Experience, the Great Stalactite at Doolin Cave is one of Europe's most compelling cave attractions. It is a truly unique and breathtaking experience:- the largest stalactite in the Norhern Hemisphere. Doolin Cave has a Farmland Nature Trail, which is FREE for its visitors. We have unusual breeds of chickens, sheep, cattle and alovely pygmy goat called Minnie, with her little kid called Vincent Van Goat or Vinnie for short. We have also planted lots of native trees and shrubs and wildflower meadows. Our cafe serves lovely fresh salads, soups, breads and homemade cakes We are very proud to announce that we have recently been awarded a Gold Award from Ecotourism Ireland. Hurray!

“Definitely worth a detour”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

I agree with other reviewers in that this is more suitable for older children and adults. It passes a good hour, has a satisfying wow factor when the guide hits the light switch, and boasts a rather superior cafe. What really set it apart for me though, was the quality of the guide, who was well-informed and easy-going, and communicated his enthusiasm articulately and fluently. Top marks.

“Not to be missed if you are in the area”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Great Stalactite is phenomenal, absolutely astounding, a rare chance to see something that is hundreds of thousands of years old.

The journey begins with an 80ft descent into the cave proper after which visitors must don a hard-hat which adds to the sense of rugged adventure and which prevented many a bump on my noggin.

Whilst travelling through the cave, a very informative guide pointed out the original crawl spaces that the original cave-discoverers traversed; an exhausting 100m which leads ultimately to an enormous underground cavern hosting the Great Stalactite - but already I've said too much... suffice to say my jaw dropped.

“Great Experience”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

My dad told me we had to go here and I'm so glad we did. It was an amazing experience, my favorite cave! You had to wear a hard hat and our tour guide was so knowledgeable. The stalactite was really cool to see. I cant believe its still growing. Everyone we met on our trip, who was going to be in the area, we recommended it to. It wasn't really expensive and it was so worth it!!! They will be opening another tunnel in November and I really wish I was able to see it. Another trip I suppose! There is some walking down 100+ stairs that you have to go back up.

“Wow!”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

Great for adults and older children. Compared to most other attractions, reasonable value for money. More importantly, it's not every day you see a stalactite of this size!

Whilst a few younger children (under 7s) did visit here, some were frightened in the cave or just uninterested. There's a lot of steps to go down...(and up!) so personally think it's best suited to slightly older children who don't mind steps.

“Nice but expensive”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Pro: Nice guided tour
Con: Expensive. It was 24 euros for 2 of us. It was the most we spent on an activity and only was about 30 minutes.

Glad you found the tour interesting and the tours last almost an hour. It is on the higher end of visitor attractions as the stalactite is one of the most unique in the world and we have to control and monitor the cave climate at all times in order that we keep this great wonder of nature in pristine condition for the generations to come.
