“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

My wife and I stayed here May 2012. Reading the reviews, I think we must have caught them on a bad day. I didn't find the hosts to be very hospitable - when we showed up it took a while to find someone, and when we did it seemed like we were inconveniencing them. About all of the conversation we got was where our room was and what time breakfast was. The food was mediocre at best. We're not very picky people, but we found the room to be a bit dark and dirty. There was dust on everything and the whole bathroom was covered in black mildew stains. As for Doolin itself(not a factor in my rating of Kililagh House), we picked it for the supposedly wonderful music scene which was very disappointing. We had a much better time in Dingle - not only was the music better and more diverse but the locals were much friendlier.

My family stayed here in August for 2 nights and had an enjoyable visit. Hearty Irish breakfast every morning, or your choice of French toast, omelets, etc. Very plentiful. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable. Shower stalls are a bit small. If I had to do it over again, I would probably only stay in Doolin for one night. Not much to do there that you couldn't do in one day. Did go on the ferry to Inisheer, which was a rough trip. But the island was quaint.

Warm, friendly staff, the rooms were spacious and cozy. No extra frill, but clean and simple. Breakfast is great and plentyful, served by a friendly Steelers fan :) I would recommend and would stay here again for sure.

We stayed 2 nights at Killilagh House in Doolin. This is a budget B&B. If you remember this, then you will not be disappointed.

We were greeted by a non-Irish woman who was friendly but was lacking in charm and hospitality. We found her to be, at times, a bit curt and seemed bothered when I asked for more towels. (We were 5 people staying in 1 room with only 2 towels.)

The B&B is a bit dated in décor but it appeared fairly clean and tidy. They burn a lot of candles and I'm not sure if it's to cover up a smell or they just like candles. We didn't detect any foul odors.

Our room was a family room which had plenty of room for all of us (2 adults, 2 teens & 1 child). We wanted to save some money on lodging and this was the answer for us. The beds and bedding were clean and fairly comfortable. After I adjusted to the fact that this is not a luxury B&B, I felt very happy with our choice.

Breakfast was very good. We enjoyed everything from French toast to the Full Irish. The young gal who worked the tables during breakfast was absolutely lovely and very friendly. She was certainly a highlight of our stay at Killilagh and provided the Irish charm and hospitality we encountered at other B&B's. We were never introduced to Cormac or Liz although I'm sure it was Cormac who gave us some directions. We found it a bit odd that he didn't introduce himself as that was how it was at other places, but he was helpful and friendly, so possibly he was just busy as they were full the days we were there. Communication during the reservation process was very good and both Liz and Cormac were quick to respond to emails and questions.

The location is pretty good. You are sort of on the "outskirts" of town and directly across the street from the Doolin Café and McDermott's pub. To get to the "city centre" it's a good walk on a narrow street. We made this walk once during the day and all was okay, but I think it might be a bit more dangerous at night. (Doolin is a one-street town. It's very small but charming and quaint.) A short 5 minute walk from Killilagh House provides a few more restaurants and some shops. We enjoyed dinner BOTH nights at the Riverside Bistro and I highly recommend this place. Excellent service and really good food.

To sum up my thoughts on this B&B: I think for the money, it's a very good deal. If you plan to stay in Doolin and you don't want to spend a lot of money on lodging, then I think you'll be very happy with Killilagh House. If you are looking for a B&B with views, luxurious salons, and high end amenities, then you will be disappointed.

If you are in Doolin, I recommend highly Doolin Cave. The 30 minute tour was one of the highlights of our trip so budget and hour and visit. It's just a few minutes from Killilagh House.

We have stayed two night. It was our second visit to Ireland. We stayed in a hotel in Galway last time and went to the Cliffs of Moher. The landscape was fantastic and then we decided to stay in the nearer village, Doolin this time. We always use the public transport like bus. Killilaugh House is just in front of the bus stop of Rainbow Hostel. The bus driver was kind enough to call us when he stopped. Liz, the manager of the B&B, was very kind and sincere throughout our stay. She asked us about our preference of the room and showed us two rooms. Unfortunately they did not have a twin room with bath tub. We are a kind of typical Japanese who love it. Other than that everything about the room was all right. It was clean, spacy and quiet. The breakfast was simply superb. We asked unusual combination of the menu but they cheerfully served it for us. We like their french toast and strawberry yogurt especially. We tried to walk back from the Cliff which took about 3 hours. The road was mostly no pavement and car comes very fast. So we do not recommend to do it. We cannot complain about it because you can simply get on the bus. We will stay again when we come back. Thanks Liz.

Didn’t have any reservations – and just happened upon choosing this B&B for a visit to Doolin. We were very happy with our one-night stay at the Killilagh House in September 2012. It is a nice country inn with good curb appeal that does not disappoint inside. Bridget was a welcoming and gracious host. It got a little cool at night and there was a great fire in the living room that we enjoyed very much. Room was fine, breakfast was very good. Super close walk to the two main pubs downtown. Very convenient and would highly recommend.

The staff are extremely nice and helpful.
The place is clean and well kept. The rooms are spacious and cheerful.

It's near the 2 best bars in town (right next to the bridge).

Only thing is to beware of the room across the kitchen. There's a lot of noise in the morning when breakfast is served.
