“Doll's Cottage”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

We stayed here for one day, on our way from Killarney to Galway. The room was attractive and comfortable and Sean and Naimh are wonderful hosts. Doll's Cottage is in the heart of the quiet village and very close to Gus O'Connor's Pub. Prior to our visit, we did not know that Sean is Gus O'Connor's son. Naimh directed us to the best local pubs for music and food. The breakfast was very good and Sean helped us map out a great day of traveling along the coast and through the Burren. I would like to have spent more time here and hiked the trails along the coast - will save that for the next trip.

Thank you Sean for the wonderful service you gave our family this past summer. You gave us great restaurant tips to help with our food allergies and let us know where the good music was on
the right nights. The beds in the rooms were very comfortable and you really went out of your way to accommodate our food issues and wonderful travel tips of the area. You are true Irish literature with your colorful personality and family history. We are awaiting for you to write a book that would no doubt be a bestseller... Get going Sean, you have a wonderful book inside you, what are you waiting for? You know who we are! Thank you sooo much again! We can't wait to return.....

The physical attributes of this B&B are a little short but entirely adequate for the experienced B&B traveler: Rooms were small with smaller bathrooms. The breakfast was OK --- nothing bad just nothing exceptional. BUT the reason for staying at Doll's is the host, Sean. He is a seasoned historian of the Burren area both of its geography and its personalities. As we discovered, everyone in the Doolin area knows Sean. Sean is the son of Gus O'Connor who operated the oldest pub in Doolin (a must do experience while you are in town). This historian/travel guide/conversationalist will boggle your mind with his opinionated and informed comments about almost any topic --- especially what's going on in Doolin, The Burren, Cliffs of Mohr and the Irish economy (he carefully sidesteps politics, however). Ask about his unguided 3/4 day tour of the Burren. You will see the whole thing!

I (with my sister and two cousins) stayed at Doll's Cottage in September. This cozy and quaint B&B is right in the heart of Doolin. Run by Maeve and Sean O'Connor the B&B is right behind O'Connors pub which used to be run by Sean's parents, Gus and Doll. Maeve and Sean are lovely and gracious hosts and while the B&B was not as elegant as others where we stayed, it more than made up for it in charm, coziness and our welcome from the hosts. We were sorry to have missed the Fitzgerald's Pub music, and were soundly chastised by Sean for this omission:) but we wanted an early night. We did have a lovely grilled salmon dinner at Fitzgerald's though. Breakfast next morning was truly delicious from the muesli and yogurt to the wonderful smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and heavenly coffee, from Sean (a slow food chef). Sean was also a true font of knowledge. He gave suggestions as to what to see in the area - we went not only to The Burren but also to the Burren Centre (next to Kilfenora Cathedral) as well as the Burren Perfumery. He also gave us back road routes for which we were grateful since we did not want the freeways. Doolin is a delightful town and I highly recommend a stay at Doll's Cottage.

We recently stayed with Sean and Niamh in September. The town of Doolin is a beautiful place with loads of friendly people. Doll's cottage was clean and neat and in a wonderful location. Sean shared his local knowledge and even joined us at the pub he recommended, were we had the most enjoyable night listening to traditional music. The next day we had the best Irish breakfast of our entire trip. Their hospitality was grand and we enjoyed spending time with Johnny their friendly and welcoming dog. A great place to stay in Doolin.

We arrived in Doolin and from the tiny bridge, the walks, the pubs and entertainmnet, to the morning after, we were struck by the charm and openness of this place. We were also struck by the welcome and conversation we got from Sean & Neve as we shared a cuppa in the breakfast room. It was nice to sit still and share views on topics instead of concentrating on the road and the next bend...we had the room with 'the view', the beds were very comfy, the bathroom small (as compared to other B&B's), but the decor and artwork complimented the charm of the place. We enjoyed our breakfast and the conversation before w ehit the road with tips of where to visit in the next leg of our journey.

Our breakfast was delicious. Our host, Sean was quite entertaining and full of information. We were steered to a pub that offered one of our best meals in Ireland, and then gave us a memorable night of traditional Irish music. For that I am most thankful. The rooms do leave some things to be desired. With a little more TLC and attention to detail they could be excellent. They are quite small which wouldn't be a big deal except we weren't offered another place to gather in the cottage upon our arrival. The shower is very meager, the wifi didn't work...but hey, we were in a beautiful little town in Ireland...how bad can it be?
