I've read all the reviews, and all I can say is we enjoyed Frank. He has a quirky sense of humor (told us, with a huge smile, that we were late for breakfast, the sun was shining etc. etc.), but we showed up unexpectedly at his door, he gave us a choice of rooms, we slept great and the house and grounds were well maintained. We talked with him for probably an hour that morning and we really liked him.

I think as Americans, we assume that Irish B&B's are hotels. THEY ARE NOT! They are a way for people who live in Ireland, not the richest of countries, to make ends meet. We are in their homes. We are truly guests and as such, should treat them as if we were staying with friends. We should arrive in a timely fashion, or let them know when to expect us. We should be respectful of their time and day. If we are not willing to do so, we should stay in a hotel. Frank, here is my 5. Keep those blue Irish eyes smiling :)

This is my second stay at Doonmacfelim House, and surely won't be my last. Frank is a wonderful host, and tremendously well informed about the local area and sites. The B&B is quiet, very well located and has plenty of parking. Breakfast is made to order and ample enough to keep you from needing lunch. Plenty of hot water, fresh towels every day and complimentary WiFi. Like a few others, I was late on arriving as driving in Ireland always takes so much more time than I expect. I had no issues with my late arrival and was received warmly by Frank and his son. The rooms can tend toward the cooler side in this unseasonably cold spring but there is a fireplace in the sitting room and plenty of extra blankets in the room so that we found it not to be an issue.

My husband and I had the pleasure of a 6 night stay at Frank's place, Doonmacfelim, in Doolin. The room was comfortable and clean and if my husband had not insisted on opening the window it would have been adequately heated! Breakfast was tasty and satisfying and I think we tried all the breakfasts that Frank had to offer. I found Frank charming and very helpful. He was able to advise us what was available in the area and how to organise our outings. He was always quick to call any establishment that we wanted to visit to make sure that the right music was playing or to book a table.I found him accommodating, friendly and very knowledgeable. If that was not enough what about those gorgeous blue Irish eyes?! Thank you, Frank! We had an awesome time!

After reading some other reviews I was a bit nervous about staying here. Frank asked us to phone once we were in Co Clare to let him know an apprx time of our arrival. Along the way we decided to see the Cliffs of Moher so we were later than what he would have expected so didn't know if we'd get 'told off'.
A nice surprise then that we were greeted very warmly, shown to our room and given lots of information about dinner and music.
Rooms, the website say, are decorated to the 'finest quality and decor'. Well they are still ok but the decorating is now a little past it's best.
Unusual in that we had to write our order for breakfast the night before - but that was ok.

Arrived in Doolin without a reservation, which is how we toured the majority of Ireland. Most of the village was closed for the season. Fortunately, Doonmacfelim House was open and had room availability. The rooms were chilly and we asked the owner Frank about the heat as we did not see an option to adjust the temperature in the room. He said there was a timer and he would adjust it so that the rooms warmed up. We went down to the pub for dinner and when we returned to our disappointment the rooms were still very chilly. We ended up wearing long underwear and turtlenecks with our pajamas. Fortunately there were plenty of warm blankets in the room to pile on the bed. Morning was chilly as well and the couple we were traveling with requested to check out immediately after breakfast and wore their coats the whole time they were there. The B & B had a musty smell and viewing the bathroom ceilings it was obvious why. There was definitely a mold issue going on. The rate was 35 Euros per person (70 per couple). Compared to the other places we stayed and for what we got, this was more than it should have been. The breakfast was good, not one of the most outstanding of the trip, but better than anticipated after our somewhat disappointing night. We chalked this experience up to being what we had heard about Ireland accommodations being more temperature conservative than other places!

What a friendly and helpful host, arriving in a party of four we were made welcome from the word go. The atmosphere was relaxing and laid back, with no pressure.
The location is brilliant for surrounding pubs and sights, plenty of car parking too.
The ground floor room was clean and comfortable with ensuite bathroom and hospitality tray. There were extra pillows and a lovely big wardrobe...for the first time in ages I was able to hang a long dress up without a crease in it!! Breakfast was well cooked and tasty.
We really enjoyed our first visit to Doolin and Doonmacfelim House. We will definitely be back.

Our family group had all but one room on a recent trip. Most but not all had a private bath and there were a variety of bed combinations that ended up working for all of us. The breakfast was very good and Frank was quite accommodating. It is a short walk to both ends of Doolin which was handy in the evening when returning fro the pubs where we heard fantastic traditional music and had plenty of Guinness.
