We should have known better and not stayed here given that the owner had not officially opened it for the season. However, the owner had agreed to allow us to stay in one of her "self-catered" apts. The front of the Hotel has a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean (the hotel sits up on a hill about a kilometer from the "village". ) Unfortunately, we were put in one of the apartments in the back of the facility, our bedroom window looked out at the courtyard and the window in the kitchen looked out at the back of a barn garage...very unattractive. Given that we were the only tenants, you would have thought the owner would have put us in the best location. We were suppose to stay for three night, but after that one night we left. We also found the accomodations just adequate. The apartment beds were old, the main living area had a dining room table and two chairs to sit in to watch TV and the bathroom which was off the kitchen had no heat. Maybe in the height of the season, this would be a better place. It was kind of spooky to be the only ones there.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to spend the last several nights of a two week trip to Ireland at the beautiful and gracious Aran View House Hotel. The Aran View was our “splurge” and it was well worth it. We had a beautiful room at the very top of the older part of the house with extraordinary views of the Aran Islands, ocean, and coast (Cliffs of Moher) to the south. The mahogany bed was incredibly comfortable ( I have never slept so well in my life), the shower was the best we experienced in Ireland, and the food was great. We ate in the hotel restaurant one night and at their cozy pub the next. The food, whether an elegant salmon dinner, or fish and chips (perfect after a day trip to the Aran Islands in pouring rain), was uniformly excellent, and we enjoyed having breakfast in a charming, windowed alcove. Teresa and Sharon, the mother-daughter team who run the hotel, are warm, friendly, welcoming, eager to answer questions and help visitors find their way. I loved it that this place is a family business (Sharon told me she is the fourth generation to run the hotel), that there are two friendly dogs who greet visitors, that the setting is so peaceful and lovely. I am a writer and could have easily have stayed a week in that wonderful eyrie at the top of the house, reading, savoring the views, dreaming about all the things that must have happened in the hotel’s 300 some years. All in all, the Aran View was a really special place to end our vacation. We recommend it highly and will definitely return. At only an hour and half from the Shannon airport, it’s also a great – and perfectly manageable – last stop for folks headed home to the States.

Though I did not like some things about this hotel, overall it was perfect for a stay in Doolin. It was more the town that was not so amazing. However, the room did have some bizarre decorating and the beds were not the most comfortable. The bathroom was very nice and the breakfast was not bad. I would say that rather than criticizing the hotel, I find that the town is less than appealing.

Booked hotel for three nights, checked out after one nght. Room was musty, and cold,Television control did not work. The breakfast was appalling considering B&B was costing 80 euros. There was no fresh fruit :tinned grapefruit and tinned mandarin oranges. I ordered scrambled egg and smoked salmon from the menu and then i was informed that the smoked salmon was not available. When the scrambled eggs arrived they were burnt and the grilled rasher that I ordered instead of the smoked salmon was burnt and had been fried in butter. There is no lift in this hotel which is a problem if you have to carry your luggage to the top floor.I got a beadutiful B&B in Lisdoonvarna for 45 euros.

My husband & I stayed here in July 2007. While it looks promising, we wished we'd stayed elsewhere. The hotel is old, the first room we had was terrible. It smelt old and musty, the tv didnt work and when we complained they told us they couldnt do anything about it. The bathroom was like a cupboard!
We eventually requested to change rooms and while the first room had nice view out to the cliffs, the second had no view but was more comfortable. The plumbing is quite obviously old and all of the pipes vibrate and make loud noise when flushing the toilet, especially during the night. We considered not staying the second night but did, had we have had a longer stay we definitely would have looked elsewhere.
We drove into town for meals (loved the local pubs, especially Fitzys - the BEST roast chicken!)

A wonderful hotel. Excellent views and comfortable rooms. Old world charm in a beautiful setting. The hotel is 380 years old so expect some little issues but overall wonderful. The bar is unique and served the best Guinness we had on our trip. The restaurant served wonderful breakfast and dinner and the hotel was an ideal setting for trips to Doolin and the surrounding areas. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
