Having been to the Barn a few months ago, although not to eat, we were happy to go back with friends for a look around the lovely shop they have there. It was a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon and after looking round the gift shop, we decided to stay and have a drink. While chatting i had a look at the menu and and my husband and i thought we would try the Cumberland and black pudding sausage, served in a rich red onion gravy and tucked under a bed of cheesy leek mash. Sounds great? After waiting for 45 mins, we had to ask where our food was. They had only put the order through for 1 dish, after complaining that we had ordered two, we waited another 15 minutes( with no explanation) When the food eventually came, we were really hungry. The food looked ok, but on tasting it, it was only warm. The the mash was tasteless and the sausages had not been browned and looked awful. The biggest let down was to so called "rich red onion gravy ". It was thin and watery and and totally tasteless. I felt so tired and stressed by this stage, i couldn't be bothered to complain. It seems that they cannot cope when busy, we were offered all kinds of dishes that were meant for other people, whilst waiting for our meal and the staff were wondering round with plates of food not knowing which table to go to. I think they need to be more organised and take a little more care with the food. I won't be eating there again, and thats a shame as the shop and the area itself is wonderful.
