This is great regardless of the weather as long as you wear suitable footwear. Exciting walkways for the children and interesting geologically for all. Been loads of times. A must do.

We spent a fun afternoon exploring the gorge and caves. Took a picnic and enjoyed the surroundings, it was quite quiet so we had no problem grabbing one of the picnic tables. The gorge was quite wet, which we had been warned about but the place is really beautiful so the sliding about can be partly ignored and there are handrails in certain places. It would have been useful to have a map of the cave on the map we had been given as we weren't sure how far to go through the narrow cave and ended up turning back probably right before the end! Partly due to one of us being a large man and another a small child getting a little worried about the narrow, dark space. Didn't spoil the experience though and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

We spent a weekend (Friday night to Sunday lunchtime) at this fantastic camp site as part of a stag event. The camp site is excellent - all the facilities are very good and the staff are wonderful. The site is located in a lovely part of Yorkshire and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. On Saturday, all ten of us went on the "Big Five" activities; enjoying canoeing, caving, via ferrata, abseiling and gorge walking - all in one day! We had a fantastic time. The activities are really fun and the guides are both knowledgeable and friendly. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. A great lunch was provided on the Saturday and we booked for breakfast on the Sunday morning; both were very good and the value for money for the whole weekend (camping, activities, food) can't be beaten. We liked it that much, we are trying to marry off the rest of the single blokes in our group to have an excuse to come back!

Just spent an amazing weekend at howstean gorge camp site. Really lovely place. Great facilities all round showers and loos very good. Cafe and food v good. My son and his friends did the abseiling and gorge walk. Jumping in to the deeper pools. All the boys absolutely loved it I'm sure it is something they will not forget for a long time. The whole family did the caves and loved it. All staff were very helpful and friendly.
Will definitely back before the end of the year.

We arrived for Bacon Butties about 9.30am with prior arrangement with the Café as they don't usually start serving until 10am which would have been no good as our How Stean Experience started at 10am! or you had cooked your own breakfast at the Campsite.
We Camped the night before at Studfold Camp site just a few minutes walk down the road, we tried to book in at How Stean Campsite but unfortunately was fully booked.
The experience lasted 3 hours, In a group of no more than 8, we were lucky as there were just 5 of us, we started off with some rock scrambling, this is not for the faint hearted and you need to be fairly fit to hold on to the handles set into the rocks, followed by a climb over the river on a ladder, then up the other side crawling on your hands & knees under a rock face, then it was back up to the top via steep steel handles again set into the rocks, at all times you had a harness on and your Karabiners attached to a steel rope so there was no chance of you falling! this first part of the experience lasted approx 1 hour, old clothes/trainers/jeans required as you will get a little dirty and if you don't have jeans on, you will get could get your knees scuffed!
Then it was off to squeeze into our wetsuits which were provided, don't forget to bring shorts to wear under and over the wet suit. We then Abseiled off the bridge down into the River Gorge one by one, this was not as scary as I thought, we then spent the next 90 minutes or so exploring the gorge and caves and plunging in the odd deep pool, to say we went in Mid June and had a warm day the water was still freezing, even thought the wet suit kept us warm, obviously the cold water has to warm up against your body first, and unless you wear rubber gloves to protect your hands they will be frozen in the water! I'm pleased to say everyone in our group survived and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. there were a few nervous people before we started, but would not hesitate to do again or recommend! Thanks for an enjoyable morning, Oh and you also get a DVD of your experience filmed on the guides helmet, not the best quality but still good to look back at and have a laugh!
