Had a double bed room with Fan for 300Baht in Sep12. Room was quite big, clean and had mosquito nets ... Staff was nice and helpful. Location is perfect: at the end of a soi, so not too close to the big road but still only about 200m away from the entrance to the historical park. Free Wifi.

We stayed 2 nights in this guesthouse. Didnt make a reservation. So when we arrived they had only the backpackers rooms available. So i write something about those and the best rooms they have to offer wich we had the second night. We even get a nice discount the second night.

-- Backpackers rooms: 4 rooms with shared bathroom and toilet. 150 tb each night for a double bed and a fan. Rooms are about 3x3 meters. 3 mm wood seperated the room so you hear everything of the neigbours, and i mean everything..... The mosquito screens are not that good and there are no mosquito nets for the beds, so bring your own. Towels, toiletpaper, soap, water are provided (the same for all the rooms). Toilets and bathroom are very clean. Water is cold, but with the high temperatures the water is never cold :) The rooms itself are very basic. not that clean everywhere. We used to this kind of rooms in India. Good for low-budget backpackers. But for 150 tb you can get better rooms.
-- large rooms : for 600 tb you get a large room with 1 kingsize double bed and 1 single bed ( so it is also perfect for 3 people-same price !) Beautiful furniture, tv (only thai channels), fridge, a/c (powerfull one), clean and spacious bathroom, hot water. Beds are good.

Free WiFi in all the rooms we used.

The provide free coffee and tea in the morning, no restaurant. But there are a lot of restaurants just around the corner. When you turn left you can buy fantastic food at the afternoon market. We bought fish, sate etc there for just a few bath. The thai love it when you try and taste there food and it is just perfect.
Bikes for rent around the corner (right) for just 30 tb each day. Also a laundry at the same place (5 hours wash and dry for 30 tb a kilo) and you can buy your bustickets there for a good price.

The sell drinks for a 7/11 price. Large chang beer for just 45 tb etc etc The staff can give you some nice information about the city. Just ask them. Friendly staff.

The historical park is just 1 minute walk from the guesthouse so you have the best starting point in the city. Go to the park as early as possible, return to the questhouse at 11:00 am and go to the park again in the afternoon. That way you avoid the crowd. A lot of busses arrive from 09:00 - 10:00 am. That time we took our bikes and went to the wats outside the citywalls. Dont miss the ones at the north site of the city, the are beautiful.

Next time we come here again for sure. Great place for a great price.

Room tip: i think a-01 to a-04 have the best internet connections

I've stayed at the Old City Guest House 3 separate times. I've stayed in small fan rooms and big a/c rooms. I've always found it excellent value for whatever amount I was paying. As many others have noted, the location can hardly be beat for closeness to the historic park (why so many travelers stay in New Sukhothai is a mystery, although a fair number of guidebooks and online sites don't even mention the possibility of staying in the Old City). The location, down a lane off the main road, is peaceful. Staff are helpful, although their command of English is very limited. Good eating is very close; I particularly reccomend the Coffee Cup, which is a full-scale restaurant, not just a coffee shop.

Room tip: Look first, as they do have a variety of rooms. As others have mentioned the closer you are to reception, th3e better the wifi.

We stayed at OCGH two nights and an additional night in the new city (sort of by accident). Helpful hint if coming on the bus from the north of Thailand (possibly the south as well): the bus first passes through the Old City and continues on until the New City. If you do not alert your bus driver you will be taken all the way to the New City and then have to pay for transportation back to the Old City (over 10km). Sadly we made this mistake and it was late so drivers wanted a lot of money and we ended up just staying in the New City which is inconvenient.

OCGH is clean, right across the street from the park, has a range of rooms from basic to superior (t.v/ac/huge rooms), they provide a free bottle of water and towels, and are near many restaurants.
