“Recipe for a relaxing holiday”
Reviewed August 25, 2018 for a stay in August 2018

We had a fabulous 2 weeks at Vacheroy. The Gite is in a lovely rural quiet spot, perfect for relaxing.

The Gite is well equipped, tastefully furnished and lovely and clean. There are lots of thoughtful touches and attention to detail about things you didnt realise you need when self catering in a holiday home (like foil and tupperware containers to keep food fresh!).

We loved eating out on the patio every day and relaxing in the private garden area, as well as making use of the extended garden, shared with the owners. The pool table and table tennis, plus numerous other garden games, were perfect for our teenagers. Free wifi and the amazing pool (with huge inflatable duck) also kept them (and us) happy.

There are lovely walks, on the doorstep, beautiful fields of sunflowers with not a soul in sight.
We visited the night markets in Montendre, which have a great atmosphere and excellent food. We also enjoyed trips to Bordeaux and St Emilion, which are about an hours drive.

Mark and Sandra are excellent hosts, always available when needed, but left us to our own devices when we wanted. From the moment of booking and responding to enquiries via email, through to welcoming us warmly after a long drive and then waving us off at the end, they couldn’t have been nicer. Daisy, the dog, is friendly and got on well with (and tolerated) our bouncy Cockapoo. We found taking a dog to France very easy and Mark and Sandra helped to book the requisite vet appointment for the return trip.

If you are looking for a great holiday in France, with children and a dog next year, book now!

“Wow!”
Reviewed May 29, 2018 for a stay in May 2018

Vacheroy provided the perfect accommodation for a relaxing stay in a location ideal for exploring the most beautiful towns and villages of this region. We alternated between staying by the beautiful pool one day and seeing the sights the next. Mark and Sandra provided great knowledge of the area, places to go and what to do and nothing was too much trouble for them. Great hosts, beautiful accommodation in a stunning region! Highly recommended

“Amazing property”
Reviewed August 29, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We arrived for a two week holiday at 8pm on the Saturday night with two young children (aged 4 and 6) and a crazy dog and were given a warm welcome by Sandra and Mark who had the pool open and warm for us to jump straight in which was a lovely start to the holiday (along with the welcome pack of bread, cheese, local wine, butter etc).

The house is immaculate and has everything you could need. Mark and Sandra have obviously visited Ikea wth children in mind and have ensured there are plastic plates bowls etc and essential bathroom steps, high chairs, travel cot etc etc. Mark also very kindly put the stairgates on for us which gave peace of mind. The house and garden are very child friendly.

The bedrooms were great - very comfortable beds and the linen was white, crisp and clean - and the girls loved The Den where they slept especially the glow up stars on the ceiling above their beds which is such a nice touch. If you have children and want to sit outside in the evening to enjoy the sunset whilst they are asleep then it is possible to hear them if they wake up.

The bathrooms were both spotless and modern and good quality towels were provided which saved room in the car. The living room was huge with very comfortable sofas and lots of information on the table about places to go. There was wifi throughout the whole property and it even reached the pool and we didn't have any problems with it at all which was great.

The garden is 2 acres and stunning. There were hammocks in various places and beautiful places just to sit and rest. The garden immediately outside our kitchen was fenced off with a small fence which was perfect for us as it meant we could leave the back door open at all times knowing the girls and dog could not get out into the rest of the garden where the pool was without us.

The pool was one of the best we have had, it never felt cold and was positioned perfectly for all day sun.

There is plenty to do in the area - we went to Cognac, an airshow, Royan beach, Blaye, a couple of night markets and indoor swimming at Jonzac which are all easily accessible but the thing we all loved doing the most was staying at the house and enjoying the pool and garden and the two weeks flew by.

One of our concerns before we arrived was how it would be having the owners living on site and whether we would felt overlooked. We didn't need to worry as Sandra and Mark were warm and welcoming but then faded away into the background only appearing when we needed them and their generosity in keeping an eye on the dog when we went out was amazing.

Sandra and Mark have done such a good job with the house and because it is their home, and not just a holiday home, everything is to a high standard and small things like making sure the pool is kept at a constant (high) temperature are kept an eye on.

I would definitely recommend this house to anyone with children of any age or adults only. For very young children the enclosed garden was plenty with its swings and slide and amazing wildlife (not least the large family of swifts which lived in the tress and were stunning to watch fly about) to keep them amused for hours and the house is very child friendly. For the slightly older children the pool table, table tennis etc should keep them amused if they ever get fed up of the pool (which is highly unlikely).

For those holidaying without children this house offers a complete escape with true peace and quiet. There are so many areas to sit and read a book or just close your eyes and not hear a thing for hours. The house is big enough to accommodate a larger group and that includes a decent size outside table which is comfortable to sit at and chat with a few bottles of wine until the early hours.

I can easily give Vacheroy 5stars and cannot wait to return. It is the best holiday house we have been to anywhere and Sandra and Mark are truly lovely people who genuinely want to ensure you have a good holiday. Many thanks to them.

“Beautiful accomodation in relaxing surroundings”
Reviewed August 17, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

This lovely house was an ideal base for a week in Charente. The décor was a good blend of both French and English styles and the grounds provided many activities to keep us all entertained, the swimming pool being a big highlight. The property is set in beautiful French countryside and the nearby town offered amenities and a vibrant night market. Mark and Sandra were always on hand to give local knowledge and answer any questions we had. We thoroughly enjoyed our week!

“The perfect place to relax”
Reviewed October 16, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We stayed for ten days at the end of August. The sun shone everyday so we made full use of the amazing pool and terrace. The kitchen is very well equipped and our hosts even got some shopping in for us before we arrived, which meant we could just get straight on with enjoying ourselves. Mark and Sandra are a fun, friendly couple who work hard to make this a home from home in this most beautiful part of France. Thank you.
