Beautiful setting. Knowledgeable staff. Interesting animals. Good enclosures. The only thing that lets the experience down is the restaurant & shop - when we visited stock was low in the shop & restaurant. The ice cream stalls were closed and the stock was very sparse in the restaurant.

Such a lovely day out. Happy, friendly staff that are very chatty and willing to help. Highly recommend a visit. The food in the jaguar restaurant was lovely and there was a lot of choice, including vegetarian options. A lot of opportunities to attend talks and feedings. We attended the tiger feeding which was well worth it as it encourages the tigers to the front of the enclosure which makes for better photo opportunities.

We had been to the other zoos in the area so decided to give Dartmoor Zoo a go.. Its okay and you do get to see Lions, Tigers and a Cheetah. What lets this place down is the layout with steep hills, badly maintained surfaces which are loose under foot. It needs some major investment if it is to be on par with far better attractions in the area. It's one of these I've done it but wouldn't go back and so unfortunately its not an attraction I would recommend, sorry..

We visited last Monday (28/07/14) with a party of 9 the youngest in a buggy. Yes the entrance hill is steep but not inaccessible with a buggy and we managed to push it to all areas of the park. However I am writing this not to complain just to put my point to previous people who have left reviews. The park has a rustic feel to it which I like not too pristine and manicured. The restaurant is lovely and very well priced as is the gift shop. The experience you get when you walk around here is awe inspiring, the keepers are fantastic and no question is too much for them. The keeper by the tiger enclosure spent 45 min talking us through the tigers (not the species but the individuals) and had so much empathy with them it was palpable. :) If you are looking for a big zoo experience then this may not be for you but me personally have visited lots of zoos including the amazing Durrell and this little zoo is on a par with them for the same reasons Gerald Durrell did what he did to Jersey's.. Hope this helps.......
