My Mum and Step-Dad finally tied the knot at the Old Blacksmiths Office on 15/03/13 after 20-odd years together. It was an intimate affair, just immediate family, and we all stayed at The Gretna Chase Hotel - not one of us could fault the hotel or it's staff. The wedding itself was a package, and was organised entirely by email and telephone, without fault. This hotel was chosen out of a small selection available and it is literally a 5 minute car journey from the Old Blacksmiths Office. My worry before we arrived was that this would be another run of the mill day with just another bride and groom for the hotel and Gretna Green staff... I could not have been more wrong! We stayed 2 nights and they made sure that we were all comfortable at all times, especially the bride and groom. They were friendly and polite, and so accommodating to any needs or requests. The bride and groom stayed in the Adam and Eve suite and rightly so had more amenities and special little touches than we did in the double rooms. They raved about the jacuzzi bath tub! The double rooms we had were great. They all included a hairdryer, iron and board, trouser press, bath and separate shower, TV and best of all a sofa with plenty of chairs to enable us to relax together in one room giving our parents some space to spend time together. Breakfast was lovely and the evening meal after the wedding was exceptional! So good we all had to compliment the chef ourselves after finishing. I don't think I have ever had a more delicious meal at a wedding. Also, the restaurant was entirely ours, even though there were just 8 of us. The dining staff made sure the meal went smoothly and we had all the time we needed to relax, do speeches and cut the cake - which they laid out in the room before we arrived. If anything I am not sure the day would have been as special had the hotel staff not been as wonderful as they are. I could rave about this place for hours, if we had the choice again there is no way any of us would choose to stay elsewhere!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Located on the Scottish / English border, Gretna Green is world famous for its runaway marriages and in the mid nineteenth century there was much rivalry between the various marriage house proprietors ... The Gretna Chase Hotel was built by John Murray, an extremely successful businessman in the marriage trade, and tenant of Allison's toll-bar. Completed in 1856, Murray built the hotel opposite the toll-bar. It proved very popular with clients, being the first in the area to offer stabling for horses. Today, The Gretna Chase Hotel offers modern amenities, but retains much of its original character. All bedrooms have pleasant views of the surrounding countryside, and public rooms are furnished in a style in-keeping with the age of the hotel. Fully licensed, privately owned and completely supervised by the owners, this small but extremely comfortable hotel offers the discerning guest a carefree informality away from city pressures. We would be delighted to show you around the hotel by appointment , to highlight all the facilities we have to offer and discuss your personal requirements. ... more less
