Dropped in here for an evening meal on an overnight caravan stop. If you want something to eat within a 2 hour timeframe, then don't visit this place, oh and if you want it to be warm when you get it this place should definitely be avoided. Dreadful advert for what should be a tourist trap for the scottish borders. This will definitely be my last visit.

This establisment was booked for a wedding reception and in spite of heavy snow we all managed to get to the venue but one elderly guest. Despite numerous phone calls they have failed to return the 'deposit' paid of £30 and charged us for the guest unable to attend. Fair enough (but mean) but no excuse to not return the deposit. My son and new wife do not have a lot an this would help out. The food was 'fair' but expensive, no where near worth the £12.99 cover.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Crossways Inn in Gretna. We booked for 2 nights on the strength of the website. On arrival the outside of the pub looked as it does on the website as did the interior of the bar, so far so good, but I don't think the website has been updated for quite a few years becuase everything else that we found was not as shown on the website.
Our room was room number 2, a family room. We opened the door to be greeted with a stale smell, the room was small and with a double bed and bunk beds there was not alot of room left just a tiny chest of drawers, one table chair and a small tv in the corner.
There was also a wardrobe in a recess behind the door. The first thing we noticed was an ashtray on the window ledge with a cigerette end in it even thought the hotel is supposed to be "no smoking". The lamp shade was so dusty I don't think it had been cleaned in years and the kettle was still full from the previous occupants with goodness knows what floating in the water.
In the bathroom the toilet and wash basin were clean but dated, the same goes for the shower cubicle. When we came to shower at night the water took an age to heat up and came out as a trickle. The reason for this I discovered was a dirty black slimy shower head!! We complained about this but nothing was done apart from someone making a 5 minute appearance to find out why it was taking so long to get warm, he didn't know and promptly disappeared again, so we unable to shower during our stay. The double bed was under a window and pushed right up against a central heating radiator, the heating was on al l night which made for a very warm night even in March and since I only sleep in my underwear I had to be careful not to touch the hot radiator during the night. On the day we came to leave I dropped the car keys down the side of the bed, I pulled the bed out to be met with more dust and fluff and cigerette ends and ash!!!
Not everything about our stay was negative though, we had two nights social drinking with our friends in the lounge bar and the breakfasts in the morning were good. We did eat in the inn on our first evening there the menu was standard pub fayre not what was shown on the website but the food was fine and though you were sometimes kept waiting at the bar, the locals bar seemed to take preference, the staff were friendly.
As I said the website seems to be well out of date so if anyone is thinking of stopping there on the strenght of the images it shows, as we did, I would think again.
