Our expectations were pretty high before we arrived in light of their very clever web site that made it look fabulous. However, if you are into 1960's chic then you would be pleased. The room was a bit dark and certainly cramped even though the bathroom was a good size and nicely finished with a walk in shower.

I saw the comment from the owner in response to a previous critical review and it was suggested that the chocolates and other small features that could justify the high prices charged. We thought this was very over priced and the breakfast was a bit overdone and the shared dining room was a bit cramped and not very relaxing.

The staff were friendly and obliging and it was nice being offered tea on arrival

We weren't feeling that well over this weekend and I have left it a week before commenting but both my wife and I decided to stay only one night of the two nights booked and we decided to cut our losses because we just could not settle or feel that great under cramped conditions and so we called it a day and left soon after breakfast

Thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry that John and myself missed you as we were away that weekend. It is disappointing when you look forward to a trip and then come down with a heavy cold, but we’re pleased that you enjoyed aspects of your stay such as the welcome, service and large en suite facilities. It’s a shame you did not get a chance to explore our remarkable location with views and direct access to one of the most beautiful estuaries in the world, let alone Wales.

We offer 5 rooms ranging in price from £75/night and have not raised prices on our best rooms – the most popular - for 5 years. We continue to champion quality local ingredients and suppliers which do not come cheap and we don’t make annoying charges for extras. We also try and go the extra mile to give great service, helping guests plan walks etc. so they can get the most of their stay.

If you were expecting a swanky, spacious boutique hotel with separate dining tables that’s certainly not what we promise on our web site. Our converted Victorian slate cutting shed is full of character with quirky furnishings and yes we do love a bit of 1960s G-Plan chic as well as one off contemporary craftsmanship. It would be great to have a bit more space in some of the rooms but hey, size isn’t everything! I guess it’s a question of taste and, to paraphrase Groove Armada, if every place looked the same, we’d get tired of looking at each others…
kind regards, Sarah

Stayed here for three nights recently on the lower field. Pitches are large and a good distance from each other with their own camp fire so you don't feel on top of each other. Sheep are a welcome addition to the field but be warned you may want to clear their waste from under your tent before pitching and take old shoes.

The owners and staff were very helpful recommending walks and cycle routes as we hired their bikes - a fab experience in itself. Shop well stocked with essentials and showers very clean. Tree bog available for those who don't want to climb hill every time and a 4x4 or wheelbarrow available to take your stuff down to camp pitch. Would recommend and return.

We're so glad we researched B&Bs thoroughly in North Wales and found The Slate Shed! It is quirky, stylish and just a really cool place to call home for a few days! There lots of well placed 1950's retro furniture alongside sleek modern lines. Not your sometimes overly twee B&B! We stayed in 'Bran', it has a huge bed, enormous bathroom with luxury bath and rain shower and amazing views. The breakfasts were lovely...I especially loved the yoghurt/granola sundae! Other lovely touches include dressing gowns in the rooms, waffles, a huge dvd selection to choose fro and watch in your room and lovely muffins or brownies left out for you to help yourself to. The location is also fab!!!! We drove about 10 mins into Arthog and parked to walk up Cader Idris and on the way past the beautiful Creggennan Lakes - these are a total MUST! It is so beautiful, one of the most beautiful places I've ever been anywhere in the world and it's on the doorstep of The Slate Shed. All in all a really lovely trip and we really did not want to come home. Thank you Sarah, John and the team. Laura and Ed, Norwich.

Room Tip: We stayed in Bran which has a huge bed and bathroom and awesome views.

We didn't stay in the B&B - we used the caravan and camping facilities for 10 days and have had the most amazing stay. Warm welcome; friendly hosts; beautifully clean showers; a warm and family friendly atmosphere and our little boy (3 years old) has had the most amazing time. Thank you to John, Sarah and Nick for having us. See you next year.

Wow! What an amazing weekend we had at this excellent establishment.
Thanks to my wonderful brother in law David and my Sister Teresa, they found a little gem.
17 of us all family occupied The Slate Shed, all the Yurts and the one Caban.
Really well run campsite, friendly helpful receptionist, clean showers, toilets, and little shop for those extra that you've forgotten.
Beautiful scenery, loads todo, it rained one day and we were all still happy and smiling.
Thank you Brother in law lovely sister and Graig Wen

Room Tip: This is a real experience for those that love going back to nature and the out doors, well recommend...
