Skipper is an awful man. The boat itself is old and dirty. No life jackets. No fun. No chit chat about local area. Save your money!!!

I've had occasion to use Avoch harbour twice this year, the harbour master Gwyn has to be one of the most helpful and friendly people I've ever met. He's helped out above and beyond so an enormous thanks to him. He also has two collies who will assist you too if you have bacon and sausage butties (or steak slices) to hand. Be aware, they're probably brighter than most of us tho.
Gwyn has a cracking wee jetboat which he uses to take visitors out to see seals and other wildlife, being a long time professional, he won't get too close to the mammals but you will usually see something on one of his trips. Friendly, knowledgeable and a very experienced skipper.
I strongly suspect I'll be back in the near future.

We got the trip for our 9 year old daughter for her birthday. We did the trip and we haven't seen one single dolphin which was very very disappointing, especially for the expensive price. But not enough: the skipper was the most unfriendly person we ever met. He just said nothing after our return!!! Not one word although he knew that it should have been our birthday present for our daughter ON THE DAY of her birthday.. Therefore a not recommendable trip!!!! Take your money and buy yourself something nice instead!

Booked this small blue boat last Wednesday. We were out for an hour from Avoch harbour right round to Fort George and beyond,we managed to see lots of Dolphins then full speed back to harbour. There were 6 of us on this boat it can take 12.Cost £18.50 each.Remember seeing Dolphins is not guaranteed. The trip out from this picturesque harbour out to see Fort George from a sea angle ,well worth the money given to a local experienced skipper. After your trip take time to walk round Avoch.
This is a lovely coastline North of Inverness you can spend a great holiday here.

Although no dolphins were seen we understand this happens as they are wild animals. This was not the most disappointing aspect of the trip. The skipper was not informative and when he did speak no one could hear him. We learned nothing about dolphins or other wildlife and he was not engaging.
The following day our children were crabbing from his pontoon and despite there being no other boats or people and us moving when the boat came in he asked us to leave. Then when we moved to the harbour wall he asked us to move from there as well. The children were doing no harm and we felt this was unnecessary and he was very hostile.

Can say that if your at Avoch the dolphin trips is a must to do. Gwyn goes out of his way to make sure you get a pleasant trip and( hopefully see the dolphins) which we did. It certainly made our holiday one to remember seeing the dolphins

After watching the dolphins from nearby Chanonry Point (1 hour after low tide as recommended) we decided to give this boat trip a go in order to extend our viewing. For us, the smaller boats with a more experienced skipper always seemed better than the bigger (packed out) touristy boats. This was again the case here and the trip couldn't be faulted.
Don't go for the expensive boats, this one is far more interesting, and fun
Despite appearances this boat is QUICK!
A fantastic experience thank you!

One of the top moments of our holiday in Avoch. Skipper very respectful of the dolphins' space, but frequently the dolphins chose to come to us.

We (2 adults + 3 children) enjoyed a great trip out this afternoon. We all enjoyed the fast, bouncy boat ride to and from the area the dolphins were feeding. Saw loads of dolphins, some close to the boat. Impressed with the skippers respect for the dolphins, moving slowly and considerately when near the dolphins. We got the impression the skipper really cared about the welfare of the dolphins which was excellent to see.

Also from booking to getting on boat was all very well organised.

Overall can’t fault our afternoon trip and highly recommend!

Having seen dolphins earlier in the day on a walk at Chanonry Point, our 4 yr old daughter was keen to get a closer look so we stopped at Avoch on the off chance they could accommodate us which thankfully they could. The trip was absolutely amazing - our daughter was in peels of laughter as we bumped and splashed over the water at speed to get to the dolphin area (note to self: wear waterproof trousers if the Fifth is choppy as it was today). After much patient searching by the experienced Skipper we spotted the first of many dolphins not far from Fort George and spent a good amount of time calmly watching the many dolphins which graced us with their presence. We were completely unrushed, and it was a magical experience to be so very close to them in their natural habitat. The look of wonder on our daughter's face (which I suspect mirrored mine) was worth the very reasonable charge alone. This was a perfect no-frills experience and we will definitely be back. Trip Advisor needs to add a "beyond outstanding" rating for this one!
